Um I would not suggest even doing reselling because its a waste of money! To attract customers you need super low prices which don't out way the cost of the resllers!

If you can get a USP (Uniqe Selling Propostion) where make you a unique webhosting provider, so you can enter this highly competitive market and offer your valuavle hosting service...

It is a tough business, so if you are expecting to make a boom and make even $xxx /mo income with just reseller panel than don't be deluded later. In case, you are willing to do some web design projects and host your clients site on the reseller server you have for a small monthly fee (enough small that with couple clients to be able to cover the reseller cost) than you are on the right way.

There are many important things in this industry that you need to know before you launch your self into this. Just take a look at the giant companies that CAN oversell their servers and offer HUGE storage and bandwidth for few dollars a month, you think you can beat them? I don't think so, why is simple, those companies can beat you with budged, they can advertise their company on some sites and spend big amount of money on advertising (that big that you would only dream to earn and not spend like them, just look at dotster advertising at sedo), they can provide support to clients (just calculate how much would cost you to hire 2-3 guys in the support line, and the big ones have XX support staff if not even XXX).

You can tho, manage to make a decent money from this business if you have the right carts in your hands and you know the play the game. Just lurk around and "see" what do people like their hosting provider to be...if you can manage to satisfy those people (calling them potential customers is the appropriate name) with at least 40% of what they need...you might have success.

    Just my 2 cents

You can make money out of this, provided you know how to market yourself properly. My suggestion to you would be to focus on the local market i.e. businesses that are located in your city and try to provide them features they wouldn’t find any where else. It could be as simple as an option of paying cash to you to designing websites for them.

I second hatem12. You need to develop uniqueness in your offer. Be THE host for some niche by providing special and unique tools for them.

OR you could approach it from a different angle altogether - you could partner up with different websites. They could offer your 30 day free hosting as a bonus for signing up to their offers or something. Could work well with beginning marketers.

Make your prices competative with any of the many big hosting companies. Then run a few 2 or 3 page spreads in major trade publications, a few TV and radio spots, and hire a large staff to handle the thousands of accounts you will need to make a decent profit.

$10 is a nice start and patience is virtue, but being realistic can also go a long way in a startup.

Very true, you can't give good prices if you are a reseller, get your own server and it will help you. Just focus on providing the very best service and support you can give. Word of mouth can make wonders.

The trick to being successful in the hosting business is not to go after the general user base that everyone else with huge advertising budgets is going after. There is just way too much competition!

What you should do is act locally. Signup local businesses (small business) for your hosting plans. You can actually charge around $25/month for an average hosting plan that you would find most hosting services charging only $5/month for.

I would much rather have a smaller customer base with larger profit than a large customer base with smaller profit.

Well the best alternate would be to register on different web hosting forums and start posting replies with your signature in it.
