without a free trial there is no way forward. Yup like most people said you are going to need a website to start with. just a small site with a few pages would do. SEO and SEM / PPC will take life forward for you, In addition you will have to tie up for free trials and get your softwares reviewed. we have tried this with a client and it started working after the free trial was offered. good luck.

Make sure your product is listed in software review and download sites such as CNET Download.com, Tucows.com and similar websites. They are the place people go to when they need software, and you need to be there.

Get tech magazines (print and online) and bloggers to review your software. If you get good reviews and the review is featured or published, that is a great source of free publicity for your business.

Offer a free trial version of your software. Those who download a free trial version are more likely to buy your product.

Advertise where your target market gathers. You need to be visible where your buyers are. Whether buying sponsored text links or banner advertising, measure your ROI carefully. If you use pay per click search
advertising, carefully track your keywords and your ROI.

Create the best software you can. Satisfied customers will freely recommend your software to others in forums or other online gatherings.

Write articles. Articles can help boost your traffic, increase your pagerank, establish yourself as an authority in the field, and get more sites to link to you. It may not be a direct way to get sales, but it can help in the long run.

Expand your software's reach through internationalizing your software. Hire a firm to translate your software and supporting documentation into additional languages such as Spanish, German and Japanese. Remember to find support options for your software in multiple languages.

Bundle an old version of your software for free with a popular computer or industry-specific magazine. This gives an immediate, targeted distribution that can lead to new customers who want to upgrade to the newest version of your software. Work with the magazine's publisher to add your software and add an article featuring your software in the issue when the bundle occurs.

    Some good suggestions.

To gain even more recognition and widespread traffic, you may consider releasing some of your software with Private Label or Master Resell rights. There is a huge market for source code software, especially within the Internet Marketing niche.

Writing a good press release is just one step in a publicity campaign. I'd recommend working with a professional to plan a campaign that you can lather, rinse, repeat until you start getting the coverage you need.

Your approach should hit on three main points:

    QUALITY
    - How buggy is your software?
    - How quickly does your tech support fix newfound bugs?
    - How knowledgeable is your customer care team?
    QUANTITY
    - Can your software handle more users simultaneously than the competition?
    - Can you integrate different programs that your software company has come out with into one system?
    - Will it take a significant amount of upkeep time for maintenance of your product?
    PRICE
    - How does it compare to others: is it the cheapest, the priciest, or moderately priced?
    - Based on this ... who is your target audience? Smaller vs. bigger companies?
    - is there a "subscription" price model, or a one-time purchase only?

There's more to it than this, of course, but these are your main topics that will be of primary interest to others.

Answering these questions in a concrete way will help you get a clearer idea of where to go next with particular marketing tactics that will convey these messages to your audience.

    Best Regards,
    Vas Blagodarskiy ...

You may want to hang out at 'Business of Software' forums. Google it up. It has got tons of information on how to market software products. Lot of software marketers hang out there and I am sure you will learn a lot from there.

Create a trial version of your software that can be downloaded from shareware websites, your company website and other software venues. Make sure the trial version is limited and cannot be easily cracked through software piracy. Trial versions can entice customers to purchase a full version of the software if they like the software and want the additional functionality of a full copy, or want to use it past the trial period.
