Ideas for Marketing New Forum

Discussion in 'General Marketing' started by GeeksBest.com, Oct 31, 2010.

Looking for creative ideas to build and market our new forum:
    www.geeksbest.com

We want to build a clean forum for Gadget lovers and developers.

We are getting visits but only to write about their websites - most of them are junk not suited for this website, I need to clean everyday.

We have funds for marketing and we are looking for creative and effective ways to get people coming to our site and start writing.

    thanks in advance

First of all, good luck with your project.
Second... I am sure you get a lot of people spamming and linking to their sites, or trying to promote their own forum in their second post ;)
Third, in order to promote your forum you will have to work hard.
Social networks, article submission, backlinks, are the options. :D

    Cheers!

Also, you would get into the chicken egg problem with a forum.
You may want to hire people to write some strong forum posts to get the initial discussion going
as for promotion, you could do social/article/video marketing

once you get more posts/views, you could also start to do ppc

You have a very steep hill to climb, forums are very hard to build up and take years.

You need a lot of targeted advertising, message me for where.

I disagree with you...i had a forum on a social network and we reached 2,000 members in 6 monthes which is decent. Forums take hard work & dedication. It doesnt happen over night , but it doesnt take 2 years to get a forum going

2,000 members in 6 months is very small. The competition are doing it at a faster rate and you have to match them if you want to catch up.

2,000 members in 6 monthes is not small ...a lot of people would argue and say that 2,000 members in 6 monthes is very good...especially on a small budget.

I would agree, if most of them are active you have done a good job.

All of the standart traffic techniques that apply to any site will work for you. All other blogs and websites deal with the same roadblocks.

Here is what has worked for me:

    - social media (twitter & fb)
    - interviews
    - list swaps (with high quality partners only)
    - articles
    - Press release submission
    - SEO

    Hope this helps! :)

IMO, if you think these numbers are good, you'll never get any market share. Without any market share, member quality will be non-existent.

The fastest growing forums pay posters. The reason it takes so long for a forum to get going is because no one wants to be participating in a dead forum. The biggest forums put a lot of money paying people to post to get things rolling. Outsource it if you can. Create 50 accounts and talk to yourself throughout the day as you are doing some promotional work. Make it busy.

Exactly. I had around that many subscribers after a month. It was not meant to make money. I needed a community of active people for something. But at that number you will not make much money unless you have an extremely creative way to monetize them.

I forgot to mention that if you give some incentive for your subscribers to post or do something to get tehm active then that can be a huge help. Be it a competition, argument, whatever. Don't underestimate the traffic and revists an argument will bring! lol

It's easy to build a forum, however, the important aspect is how to make it grow up. It would need more time to grow up, don't be too anxious about your rights and having favors repaid. Stick to it and I think you would benefit from it.

I agree with joesmillion. Forums need relatively much hard work then other sites.

2,000 members in the FIRST 6 monthes is not bad. You can ask forum owner veterans and they will tell you the same thing. It doesn't mean stop after 6 monthes. After a year you might have 5,000 members which is not bad at all.

You start small , but the most important thing is to START. People can talk all day long about how they're gonna build a great site/forum , but if you never start then there's no point.

How many members does your forum have after 6 months Joe?
