I'm looking for ideas for an upcoming online marketing competition I'm entering. I have extensive SEO experience, so I generally know what I'm doing a - but the goal is CONVERSIONS. For example, last years winners were: 1. Free software - downloaded many thousands of times. Almost 0 organic traffic, but lots of conversions through partner referral sites. Good, valuable software. 2. Local (state-wide) electrician site. Good on page SEO, very little competition, so they dominated all relevant keywords 3. Local (city-wide) chiropractor. Same as above 4. MS Excel plugin (free I think). Much fewer conversions than the winner. Many participants tried true blue ecommerce sites, but all failed. Some of these even achieved PR2+ in a very short period of time, lots of links, orders, etc - much higher quality SEO and traditional internet marketing principles, but...all failed. So its all about conversion. So I'm thinking about a few different ideas. My dad has a book I could market (small demand for generic books, but if there are sites that allow me to link to my site to download it, I might consider it). Also, I have some techie friends that might be able to whip out some useful software...but its vague there. I want to avoid the local services if possible, but I'm willing if I have the right angle. Any good ideas? And why is your suggested idea a good one.
