    Hey guys,

I've always wanted to start a website that could give away free domain names - .com's but alot of people tell me there is no way to sutain such a site, I think if I could find a way to make enough revenue I could make it work, I dont know, I just figured I'd post here and see what you guys think

I know its a risky idea, I mean you could easily go into debt with something like this, I've never seen one that worked.. HAve you?

The only place I found was a ptc site, other than that nothing.. I'd like to do it without having them do much......

You mean giving away free domain names without any catch? Unless you are a multi-millionaire, don't do it! You have to find some ways to earn revenue in order to keep this model going as you need to buy domain names to give away.

I could see giving out free domains with the purchase of an information product that teaches them how to build and market a site on that domain. Just build the price of the domain into the product price.

You could even charge $10 for the information product, spend 7-9 bucks on the domain, and make a 1-2 profit for every domain you "give away".

This would also help you build a list.

I know if I were a newbie, I'd be willing to spend $10 on a product that taught me how to monetize a FREE domain. I'm sure a lot of others would to.

I think that's about the only way you could make it work without going in debt. I just don't think something like that would be worth the work. You would spend most of your time buying and transferring domains.

Maybe try a higher price point (maybe something like $20), but you have to over-deliver for that $20 I think.

Start a hosting site and give away free domains with hosting.

I just remember myself when I had no cash no credit etc.

I filled out tons of surveys and two/three weeks later got my domain name worked my but off with referrals to renew it the next year.

Thought it would be nice to find a better way to provide to those who cannot buy

This is risky, the only way I think it could work is .info domains -- but you would need to make sure that people filled in surveys, clicked on ads or purchased something you made a commission on.

I agree with the idea you should team this up with hosting and give it away, otherwise you're not making any money!
