I'd like to hire a marketer for my site.

this is just an idea I'm playing around with... but I'm thinking about hiring a marketer to help make my site make money. I'd like to pay him a percentage of the total profits. I would prefer to just keep creating content and let someone more savvy than me do the numbers. is do you guys think this is a good idea? Anyone interested in doing it?

Anyone with good online marketing skills won't do it for commission. I'm not even sure if the "wannabes" would do it for commission. I did the SEO & Marketing for Pornotube.com and I did SEO for Netflix.com. I've done quite a few other big jobs also. Feel free to PM me the details if you have a non-commission based budget for your project.

Do you mean you wanted to do an "affiliate program" with your site?

You're right, what he described is basically an affiliate program. Didn't even notice that until you said it. Good job :)

I think what he means is that he wants the marketer to become a partner in the site. I am not sure if anyone will agree to this arrangement, but they are sure likely to work for a wage and budget to work with. I think the best thing is to learn it yourself.

Umm,I think that's a good idea.I know some directory owners used that and then they got many submissions.
Why still hesitate? Give it a try!

just an idea anyhow... I don't really know much about affiliate programs, but I suppose it is sorta like that. the revenue from the site is based purely on advertising at this point. I've desperately poor right now, so I can't really afford to pay anyone a wage. still, in the unlikely event that I could find a marketer who would work for a percentage, would it be a good move on my end?

"would it be a good move on my end?"

Chris, on your end it would be like receiving money for free, as a gift.
think about it where does the success of any site come from?

95 % as a result of marketing. Even a social or viral site needs marketing first.
And needs more marketing in order to grow. It's THE life blood of visibility.

I can get any content for a buck or two, so to speak. Does this make me
proud owner of a high class content site. Perhaps. So what. What's the
actual gain without the marketing of it. Zero, nothing, or maybe 0.01 in pure digits.

So if you ask for general "marketing" in a sense of outsourcing your problem then is
to find someone that thinks splitting a busy day in parts to get only a percentage
from any possible income while she/he could market their own site and get 100%.

You understand the problem with your proposal? It attracts only people
that cannot count. What kind of results do you expect from amateurs that cannot count?

You basically are saying "help me make a 100 bucks, and I will give you
say 20 or 30 of it." Thank you very much, sounds like....well if you need
someone to make you 100 bucks, what exactly would be the reason for THEM
to split it with you? Ever thought about that, mmmh?

Ok, I let you know the solution to your problem. Go to related sites and contact
them. The sites need to be related without being direct competitors, that's important.

Then write a proposal that is fairer to them, than the one here. Offer them AT LEAST
50% of the income if they display your ad on their front page. And convience them that
there is actually any income on your site. Without that, again it will attract only the wrong
people. If you have no current income yet, offer them 100% of income for 3 months,
until you have improved your site in order so it will generate income. You have nothing to loose,
and everthing to gain. For other sites that are in the top 30 search results you are a risk,
so you better learn how to write a proposal that benefits the reader first, not the writer.

That's how you can keep on creating content only, and let others do the marketing.

It also depends on how unique the site is...I would love to work for netflix as a partner. If you have an average directory...then sure, anyone who know anything about marketing can turn around and make the same thing on their own. BUT, if you have developed something that is truely unique and has a lot of potential, I think a smart person would be able to spot such a site and become invloved.

It is tough to work out percentage deals with strangers. You will do better yourself once you learn where your products fit best online.Online business takes the same time and effort as a reality business .It also defeats the purpose when you are paying people to do what you can do yourself.Forums like this offer many resources for free.

    good luck to you!
