I developed this site into something I'm generally satisfied with and want to make it go mainstream and begin advertising it, but I want to know what I can improve upon. http://chickencrap.com/ Please give me all your criticisms, I would like to know what you think.
Excellent job. Love the layout, colors and the feel. Did an excellent job of NOT cluttering up the pages with all ads, buttons, graphics and so on.
Yeah, will have to agree that the ad placement is good and doesn't scream at me "i created this site for google ads" hehe. However, technically, this site is not that good I'm sorry to say. You don't specify a DOCTYPE in your html code and therefore you will almost certainly not appear in search engines much at all. Also, using XHTML 1.0 Transitional which is one of the most common specifications to design for these days generates 333 errors in your code. I also suggest you learn some CSS and get rid of all the tables: that's the 90s way, css is used for positioning and formatting these days. If you want to appear in search engines, these are the things you need to fix.
Ok wow, i can't believe I forgot the doctype. I also had a meta error which i fixed and now w3.org only gives 98 errors (99% of which are caused by lack of alt in images or lack of quotes) As for the css positioning, i've tried many times with many sites, but i often end up giving up becaue so many problems arise and I'm already short on time as it is.
Why not use one of the templates at one of the open source web templates sites? such as oswd.org for example. Then you don't have to modify much, just change your choice to how you want it to exactly look..it would save you far more time than doing it all manually yourself
Everything is neat and consistent. I would only try playing with ads putting them into different spots try to maximally blend them into the content or the sections. The site name is very funny!
Chickencrap, lol, love the name. I have to say this is a very nifty website, well done indeed. I like the logo particularly.
