ICANN87: Better Names for AI Projects, or Better Domain APIs?

Discussion in 'Domain Names' started by nicenic, Oct 19, 2026.

The new gTLD discussions between registries and registrars at ICANN87 in Bali raise a practical question for website owners.

A future AI-focused extension could help name a new tool or online store. But an AI assistant is more useful if it can check what's available, show renewal costs and connect the chosen domain to the site through an API.

For your next project, would you value more naming options or fewer manual steps to get the domain working?

I don't get the first bit. They wasted time at a conference talking about bots to help name your business? Surely that belongs at an entrepeneur's conference?

Ah, no, I meant new domain extensions, not bots naming businesses. The API part was just something I wanted to discuss here. Sorry for the confusion!
