There are loads of posts and blogs around saying that ICANN will be opening all domain name extensions for everyone to buy.

Will that make the .com domains bit less popular?

yeah i also have read that they are preparing a plan that makes it possible for you to buy anything u wish like i can get
kanwarjot.kanwarjot but the real question is how many of us can afford that as the price is in million of $$$ for such names.

It will be a headache for visitors to remember the extension names.

yeah it will be but if internet reports are to be believed then all the present domain names will expire in 2012 and thus nothing would be left for new registrants..

Not really, if you know what you are doing, and I daresay the people who spring for it will.

It just means big bucks for ICANN, confusion for the typical Internet users and more expenditure for webmasters hoping to catch up on the trend.......don't see anything good in it at all.....

Agreed wisdomtool, I can't spend hundered of dollars on fancy domain names.. $10,- / .com is more than enough.
