Read this before on other forums. Yep, I didn't think that the .xxx extention would've been much of a success.

.xxx is only suitable for adult sites and possibly that is why they rejected it.

Well it is not strange at all.

This proposal has been around for long time even under the new.net pseudo domains.

I think it was a good idea. It would have made porn filtering easier for parents.

    nah.

If there'd be .xxx domains, cant the adult site owners just start a site on .net .com .info or whatever?

I think .xxx is a good idea in general but i can understand why they rejected it, as it's too restrictive an extension, however not many people would want to use .xxx for anything other than an adult site anyway. On the other hand the extension would have had huge potential for the adult industry and would likely have driven billions into the global economy and that isn't exactly a bad thing.

From what I heard is that adult sites would be forced to move to .xxx domains, this may well have been incorrect.

I dont think .xxx will ever be approved. Most adult sites seems to be against it.

If what Valve said is true i can't actually blame the owners of adult sites from being against it its a bit intrusive of rights

Yeah, I read last week they were considering it again. I don't really care either way. I probably wouldn't register one as I don't run an adult site :p

It might be fun to try to grab some good domains early though:
    cat.xxx (naughty naughty ;))

I guess it's an old story. BTW, it's good for ICANN to reject .xxx domain. I don't want my kids surf something with .xxx

The point was you could have blocked all .xxx domains very easily, doh! :) All they have to do is type 'porn' into google anyway.

As an "x" admin .. I can tell you YES .. make them all (adult related) have one .ext so I can block them from young ones and productive staff.

But not going to happen .. we spend like $3,000 a sec on porn <-- (thanks MG)

Getting all the porn sites to move to ".xxx" would be like getting the get rich quick sites to move to ".con" :)
