ICANN is opening up the market to a fresh influx of domain extensions. Meaning there will be freedom to create possibly any extension you choose as long as it doesn't affect another person's trademark

think .you .goal .smart .investment, whatever?

SOURCE- ICANN OPENS UP THE WEB TO LIMITLESS DOMAIN EXTENSIONS

How will this affect domainers and webmasters? WIll it work?

personally, i doubt if it will work, is there are are no specific extensions, then traffic and value will reduce.

Take for example the fact that people usually type keywords plus .com or .net to check for things, if there are no specific extensions, things will really get cumbersome

I fully agree with premiumdomainer, things will get confusing for skilled web surfers even not to mention for the new comers. Actually if ICANN had made its mind there is not much that we can do about it as far I see it.
However very probably we and they will regret it at some stage I am sure.

Wow, I logged on here for the first time since the story broke and I expected everybody to be talking about nothing but this.

Seems nobody knows what effect this is going to have.

In my opinion it might make .com even more valuable, in that the inevitable confusing muddle will make .com the TLD people can depend on.

But I sincerly doubt that it 'wont change anything'.

I completely agree.. this tactic on the TLD's will only strenghen the .com sector.. making them more valuable and even more prestigious. This idea isb't completely stupid though... it gives more options to corporations to enter market and will only help the internet as a whole.
