If that person is sending people to my site via his affiliate link, it's cool. I've also sold many Master Resale Rights copies of that report, so it's likely he's cool even if he's selling it from his own site.

Thanks for spotting that though! It's good to stay on top of these things.

I stopped short of purchasing from him a few months ago!

you should have reported it earlier itself so some could have saved money!

I posted to the thread many times saying that he was selling it illegally, but some people purchased anyway - too bad they can't get to it anymore.

For many of them, they purchased before reading the whole thread (which is understandable because it has 145 replies now). So I feel bad for them since they lost their money to this guy.

That's why the threads need to be deleted and this guy needs to be banned, so this will not continue to happen to innocent people.

As a programmer that sells software, I feel your pain.

It's nearly impossible to stop these little bast@rds from stealing, but I'm glad that you put security measures in place.

BTW, I agree completely that he should be banned, and it shows poorly on DP that a mod hasn't done it yet. Can a moderator tell me why?

You might also post in the forums where the stolen product was being sold and let people know (especially US-based users) that you will take legal action against them if they use your software without a legitimate license.

FastWeb: when people try to access the software without a valid license now, I log their IP address and additional information that makes it pretty easy to find out who they are.

So be warned: if you purchased from this guy and attempt to use it, my attorney may be calling you:

    http://www.jw.com/site/jsp/index.jsp

That's the firm that does my legal work. And trust me, I've used them before - they are good at what they do.

Its a shame the internet is consumed with lemmings like this guy.

Good luck with it and I do hope a moderator or SHaun himself can bring resolve to the situation.

You know, this is what I don't get the most:

This guy is obviously smart--smart enough to figure out how to break into software at 16 (he might be 17 by now). With that intelligence he could make a lot more money than $10 here and there trying to hock illegal software.

This kid should put his brains to better use. I'm sure he has dozens of angry "customers" threatening him now that I've blocked all of them from using my software.

It's a tough world we live in. There is always going to be people trying to steal your stuff. Imagine being a musician and watching all your songs appear online the day after you release your album?

At least with software you can code it and re-code it etc..

    I feel your pain jonathanleger

That's the worst part, there's the odd chance he purchased it off someone who told him it came with resell rights. But to be shown otherwise and continue is just criminal.

I know it is frustrating for you re the DigitalPoint situation, however the site doesn't like to get tied up in such situations. DP is just a vehicle to allow people to connect and trade, so it's really up to the legal owner and the person commiting the offence to resolve it by legal or other means.

It's also up to the people who purchased it from him to leave him negative iTrader/Rep, and let the boards internal system do it's job.

Unfortunately, most people would of Positive iTradered him after checking the software and finding it working.

Tuff situation, i feel for you as it appears you have lost a bit after checking out the sales threads fully.

Honestly, I don't care about the money. The software is selling fantastically, and in the thousands of copies. This little hacker kid has only gotten a few dozen people (at most) access - and now that I've improved security, all of those "customers" can no longer access the product.

What bothers me is that DPF won't ban him, and won't even delete the threads - despite his own words saying that he knows what he's doing is illegal.

That's just downright negligent of DPF. If I did decide to sue, I think I would have a case against the forum. They've been informed, and do nothing.

But like I said, I have no intention of doing that. I like this forum! I just want to see this thief banned, because now that he can no longer sell my software illegally, he's bound to find somebody else's software to sell. And guess where he'll do it? Yup, right here, with the full support of the DPF moderators who do nothing.

If this guy is a thief and rest assure he will do it again then I've sure he will get ban. This guy is now on mods watch list so regardless of this situation which I've not stating that is not unimportant but it only a matter of time the thief will angry another DP member.

jonathan - I do understand where you are coming from, but I assume you didn't bother to actually read the policies:

    http://forums.digitalpoint.com/faq.php?faq=dp_faq#faq_policies

Now, they may in fact make an exception... but you need to remember that if they did do this, it would be an exception. There would be a time and effort factor involved in proving that this was the guy who ripped you off, etc, and it is clearly stated in their policies that they do not do this.

This forum has an Alexa of 133, do you know what that translates to in terms of posts per day and traffic?

Again, the guy is a dick indeed for doing this, but don't go blaming DP for that, k?

    Michael,

I appreciate your input, and I understand their policies. But this guy has said himself that what he's doing is illegal - so is there really any more proof needed?

Also, I understand that there are probably hundreds (or thousands) of posts per day put here, and that you can't police that one-by-one. But I have directly contacted DP multiple times and been given the response that "it's not our problem".

That's what disturbs me. I don't expect a forum to be able to police every thread, but when threads are brought to their attention where even the poster admits what he's doing is illegal - action should be taken by the forum. I do hold them accountable for that.
