They've done better, yahoo are displaying there ads now.

So they profit from yahoo without owning them

I guess they think they looks a bit more of a dominance force but not to the point of bullying others if yahoo still in the game.

Probably would be seen as anti competitive, they would own arguably the two largest search providers along with one of the largest free email providers as well. I don't think it would be allowed to go ahead.

It’s totally different case if you want to compare why Microsoft would want to acquire Yahoo. For Microsoft there’s practically no hope for them to dominate the SE market with MSN so strategically it will be good idea for them to acquire Yahoo technology no matter what. But when it comes to Google, it is totally different scenario. Google already has their SE powerful enough to stay on top

They cannot because they will be more than 80% of search and so it will be monopoly

Only reason google pick up yahoo would be for certain markets where yahoo does better than google. Some east asia countries iirc. That and maybe some of the better sites they run. Plus any deal would be examined and rejected for anti trust concerns as already stated.

Yahoo! is too big for Google and antitrust laws will kill this kind of merger if it takes shape in future. Both Yahoo! and Google are completely different from each other. What Yahoo! has, Google will never reach there and what Google has is too difficult for Yahoo! to get.

Banks do it all the time. A merger would probably be o.k., but not an outright buyout. Is Microsoft still trying to make a hostile bid for Yahoo? I can't imagine that. Yahoo is messed up enough already.

Isn't it strange that with all the programmers in the world, that no one can figure out Google's algorithms? There is a theory that Google is now actually owned by the government, and that all the things they are doing are meant to add more of our personal info to the national database. Sort of conspiracy theorist, but not unimaginable.

What I can't figure out is why Yahoo can't come up with a better spam filter. I like their email, but the spam is outrageous!

Maybe Google people are smarter than Microsoft (practically an OS monopolly)
Google has competition, had it and will have and is not trying to buy it/destroy it/flame it but instead they just do better stuff, so they don't have to worry about competition - healthy competition helps in improving products, people love Google for their products, if there was no competition then the product would suffer.

so they buy out their main competitior and they have more or less 100% of the internet market. I think yahoo needs to stay there so google does not look too powerful. Even though they may buy out yahoo...who knows?

That's right. Google want to avoid troubles of anti monopoly rules. They don't need war with US goverment or EU institutions, so why they even don't think about that.

The US government would not like it, it is called monopoly. People would probably do the same, people hates monopoly.
