I just got a scammer's PayPal account frozen and their bank account closed. Didn't get my money back, so I'm getting a loan from my bank to pay my bills, but boy does victory feel great!!!!
You can read the whole story here, the thread was deleted but is still cached by Google: http://74.125.95.132/search?q=cache...p?t=1156143+kotlt+DP&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=1&gl=us & http://74.125.95.132/search?q=cache...?p=10431712+kotlt+DP&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=2&gl=us And I don't care if I get told off for posting that, it was a horrific experience. Josh (the guy who got his identity stolen) contacted PayPal and got them to close the account. I haven't seen the guy around DP for awhile now, by the way...
Nice to see you got something out of this. It's always nice when something positive comes out of these things, like having their accounts shut down and paypal accounts closed.
Yeah, I know better now, don't think i'll use eBay again aswell. I feel bad for buying UK ones now, will just ask my friends instead. Yeah, sadly this is never the case. I think people need to investigate harder, you'll fix your problem eventually. As for the guy that got his information used, he had no idea. I forwarded him a receipt that he asked for so he could call PayPal. Haven't heard back from him yet, but all I know is that I tried to send a penny to this guy (to see if his account was working because I hadn't seen him around the forums) and it didn't let me, it said he was unable to receive funds at this time. .
Probably will eventually. I find it funny that PayPal did nothing in this whole case. It rook me some time to get Apple and eBay to respond because they always tend to send the automatic responses first, but if you tell them to actually read it afterwards, they will. I sent e-mails to the heads of PayPal, all their customer service places, even called them up. They did absolutely nothing. Apple said thanks for contacting them that this was going on and assured me that I was okay after processing refunds (still have two to go), eBay gave me my seller fees back as long as my buyers responded to the cancellation (there wasn't that many people affected actually, most of them know that this happens a lot and they use them immediately). And yeah, I think the lady as pretty new, the one who I talked to. She looked at my account and saw all the disputes/and saw his account aswell (and told me that he had a bunch of notes to his account). I don't think she knew that she could have transfered me to a supervisor, but she was helpful in getting me information to report this guy to the feds. I'm hoping that they'll eventually take notice. This happens so much on eBay though, they really should just get rid of allowing people to sell cards and codes. Apparently it happens with Amazon vouchers aswell, but they actually then e-mail you telling not to buy them off people for discounts. I usually don't have this problem on eBay myself, but I've seen all the reports about it.
Glad you made it. I just have my PayPal balance reversed by a scammer. I've responded to PayPal and tell them what had happened in all the transaction. Now waiting response from them. *sigh*
I do not trust buying anything from Ebay, it is too easy to get ripped off when the buyer is from god knows what country. I used it once and some lady acted like a complete *****. She went on and on complaining and ended up costing her money.
we should learn from our mistake, next time we need to assurance that they wont scam us. provide screenshot and everything in order to win the case.
You should always keep copies of those. You'll need them if you ever try and report them to the government.
Why was the thread deleted? Also, ""I haven't seen the guy around DP for awhile now"" You can bet your bottom dollar he's around, scamming away - proabably a new account on DP. These are good for your own reference, but do you think they could be used as proof too?
I think it was deleted due to the fact that I was blatantly giving out personal details of the guy, they just didn't realize until like weeks later. Actually, one of the things they ask you at the IC3 website is if you used various mediums of communication like message boards, chat rooms, and instant messenger. They also ask for screen names, and as much information you can give them.
I'm in a dispute myself. The buyer charged a refund for a service which I provided on my part I've provided all the proofs, hopefully this will end well.
Scammers like that really make me sick, especially those who use stolen credit cards. Think how the owners of the credit cards must have felt
