hello all, I want to start a directory like dmoz and my budget is 2k including the hosting and domain and all the other script stuff promotion and things (design also) so i want ppl to interact here and let me know how you can help 1 i need a directory script programmed by the programmers here and it should be unique 2 i need web deisngers to give it a good looking design and logo 3 i need seo experts to promote the site in all aspects and mke it big and give it good backlinks and things this directory will also be paid directory so though the site will nmot have as much impact as dmoz i want to make it a big hit and get it listed in the top 1000 in alexa
Dont we all ??????????????????????? Million dollar ambition on a relatively showstring budget. I think every directory wants to be like dmoz, but they have thousands of volunteer editors, that may mean you might be very busy. Thousands of submissions per day, hope you like hard work. If it was that easy, everyone would do it. Good Luck.
You might want to begin on the free but hard part first; spelling, grammar and punctuation are the foundations of editing any directory
ODP has been around since the big bang, which is much of the reason why it's so popular. Literally, thousands of people have tried to create directories just like it and 99.99% have been a complete waste of time. Just like politics, it's hard to knock the incumbant out of office. As much as I would like to see an empire like eBay.com overthown for their corporate greediness, they'll be around forever and will always be the top dog. ODP, despite all the lazy and corrupt editors, will always be top dog. There are much better ways to piss away 2K than to start a new directory. They're a dime a dozen, and they're having an even harder time making and money now that Google slapped over 80% of them with a severe link weight demotion. My best advice for this one is to go back to the drawing board and start something in a market that isn't already so saturated. There are tons of good ideas out there that need more elbow grease than money, and I'm sure that one will come to you. Good Luck!
