Hello, I have a small website. i wish to advertise to increase the traffic. Which is the best place to advertise whether google, adbrite, adengage so on or any other. How much do I get charged (say for 1000 visitors) or on what basis do i get charged. Need a complete explanation. thank in advance.
Google is very good. The charge all depends on you. With google you pay per click. You can either pre-pay or have it directly taken out of your credit card instantly. 1000 visitors can either be pretty much made in 1-2-3 days or it can be slowly spread out. Depending on how much money you allocate for each day.
You can also buy vouchers on this very forum for AdWords credit. You can sometimes pick up $100 AdWords vouchers for as little as $25. I am not sure how legitimate this is, but many do it and find what they are looking for at a great price.
It depends on your forum. What is it? General? Webmaster? etc. It can vary from $5-$10 for General to $50+ for Webmasters.

You could always try advertising with stumbleupon and put a small daily budget on it. You get some targeted visitors for sure.
I would rather advice you to join banner exchange network. It will help to promote your site. In case it's game-oriented.
you can advertise for free - eg put your website link in your signature on this forum or join other forums that relate to yours. i usually get 50-60 vistors per a day from other forum relating to mine. and i only spend 20-30mins per a day on other forums simlar to time
