I have a question about having both <title> and <meta name="title"...> on a web page?

I am working on a website that has 2 instances of title on one webpage, here is an example of the title and meta tags:

    <title>Title of the Webpage</title>
    <meta name="title" content="Title of the Webpage (same as <title> above)">
<meta name="description" content="Brief description of the contents of the page">

Is <meta name="title"...> considered a title tag as well? Is it necessary? If so, what is the affect of using that meta tag along with the <title> tag?

So far, the only affect that I am seeing by using the <title> tag and <meta name="title"...> together is that when you post links in a social media site, like facebook, it will display the title and a snippet, instead of using the title and meta description like it is supposed to.

I'm still not sure if it affects search engine rankings and results if you have those two together (possibly keyword stuffing?). I know title is very important and if SEs run into title and meta title, I'm not sure if it confuses it when the page is crawled? If facebook reads the page incorrectly when you post a link, then I'm wondering if search engines do as well when they crawl the page?

I told the web developers for this website that in my opinion having both is not correct and the <meta name="title"....> needs to be removed, but they said that it probably doesn't make a difference because they don't think it affects search engine results and won't remove it just based on opinion. They are tough when adding IT tickets to their task list because they have so many projects. If I do add this task, they want to know the priority level and if I don't have a strong case where it affects SE results, then it probably won't get done.

Anyway, I just wanted to shoot this question out there to see what your opinion is on this. Thanks in advance!

Here's my question - How many backlinks does Google count from one single domain. For example if my website has 100 backlinks from 1 website how many backlinks will google consider.

I've buoght a domain that G has a lot of old pages indexed for, I want to redirect all 404's back to the main page via a 301 redirect - how do I do this? My site is hosted with Weebly if that makes a difference?

Google is way too intelligent. Do ever try to trick it and see the consequences... Yet, we all need Google to remain smart as our days and nights are filled with it... Go for Google...

Yeah, just have the <title> and lose the meta title.

Get some backlinks to the site from high PR sites (that means google will crawl them more often, and find your site quicker). You can also sign up for google webmaster tools.

Well if its 100 from 1 single page then thats not good lol. That looks spammy. If you have a sitewide link on a site (its on every page once) then google will count every one (inner pages dont count for as much as home links do.)

Id say build 10 quality links a day until your well indexed and then you can ramp it up.

Do you have FTP information or is it a subdomain of weebly? (yoursite.weebly.com)

    Thanks man :)

Yeah your in the google dance. Just keep building quality links to your site on other sites with relevant content and you will get out of it.

They can't tell most of the time if you do it right (as in all 3 sites are not yours, hosted on the same IP)

P.S - Thanks to all those who +Reputation , I really appreciate it.

If I have a comment on a pr5 sitewide (recent comments) but there are 130 external links on there can this lower my serps as this is what I may have seen? Should I take this comment off?

Is google caffeine live - as the comparecaffeine.com website reckons my site is no.9 for current search and with caffeine is no.1? (non-personalized results).

What max keyword density should be on your homepage?

It wont hurt your SERP's but having 130 outbound links on a page is a lot so it will probably water down how effective your link is. Im not firmiliar with google caffine so I don't know. :)

Density depends on how many keywords. Shoot for around 3-4%

Caffine has been live on Google since mid January. The server that comparecaffine.com is using as the 'caffine' server, is just one of the 40 or so development servers that Google uses.

You can see Google's strongest candidates for near future index release changes using the following URLs.

    www2.google.com
    www3.google.com

To answer your quesitons about outbound links on a domain, remember that the amount of linkjuice that is passed to your page is determined basically like this.....

(PR * .85 (dampener)) / n where n = the number of outbound links on the page.

So, if a page is pr but there are 130 external links on the page, the amount of linkjuice that is passed roughly calculated as

    ( 5 * .85 ) / 130 = 0.033

For comparison sake, lets take a PR2 page that has 20 outbound links on it, and see how much pagerank it pages.

    ( 2 * .85 ) / 20 = 0.085

As you can see, the link from this PR2 page passes more than twice as much linkjuice, simply because it has FAR fewer outbound links on it.

That being said, there are quite a few other factors involved. For example, links from directories are now heavily discounted. So you have to subtract for that. Links from 'bad neighborhoods', or links that are found to be reciprocal can also be similarly discounted. So, it's not quite as straightforward as I've presented. However, all things being equal, this is the best way to determine which links are providing the most benefit.

For quick results on low to moderatly compeditive prhases, web2.0 and article directories perform very well. They are indexed quicly, and because most of them 'no follow' all of their links, they don't leak pagerank, and therefore it accumulates quickly, causing rankings to be generally higher.

For long term results though, having your own keyword rich domain which you can control 100% in terms of optimization will help you rank well for more competitive terms. And since you control the no follow attribute, you can sculpt your internal pagerank to your greater advantage.
