thats why open source rules. there is alot of open source scripts out there which are just as good if not better then paid scripts. plus you learned linux, you should know about open source then!
you have spend enough time on design,learning linux hosting but first you have to learn how to bring traffic?that thing you did not do.that is the main thing you have to do first.you said you are blogging for two years .you must have known this things very long time before.if you learn how to bring traffic then i am sure you will make at least $500 per month from advertising.
one more thing if you have bought hosting then better start a blog and post articles regularly.they are many free resources like free themes available online.why did you spend too much money on design?

Get a day time job in a supermarket. To be able to burn $2,000 and not make a return is not great. I'm at a loss of about $30 dollars a month, but I work whilst studying, as well as do design on the side to be able to cover it. If your going to social networking, your not going to succeed. well I have spent about 1000 more than I made. But it is not wasted it has been invested in my education and expierence. You now have a set of learned lessons apply them and move on
Buying scripts is not enough to make your site successful. You need also to seo your site. That means that your site needs proper on-page and off-page optimization. Withouth this, your site still unsuccessful.
absolutely, if you listened to 99.99% of people here on DP,everyone is a "millionaire".... the simple fact of life is that its hard, and recouping your losses will be even tougher. I think (and its a hard pill to swallow) that the best thing you can do is write that $2,000 off as learning expenses, as at the very least you have paid for a good education as to what not to do online. Speaking from experience, I invested closer to $40,000 into a site when I first started out, I managed to make a living out of it for two years and recouped my investment, but hell it was tough.... Having said that though, I dont regret it as I educated myself in a way that would have cost me $100,000+ in how things are done online, and I now have a top job at a major London internet company as head of search engine marketing - do I regret the $40,000? not for a second. In the end it all turned out well for me (I sold on my site, and got a great price that made the two previous years all worthwhile, and I have moved on - taking my experience with me, I respectfully suggest that you draw a line under your experiences, and move on, all the wiser. Whatever your scripts may do, unless the site gets traffic it is no point. Yesterday I was trying to recruit a programmer friend as a partner for a few ideas I have. He asked if these sites are there already on the net. Well there are some, but those sites don't rank. My content site in the same niche rank better than a fully functional site. My idea is to make my content site have those features You see, at the end of the day you need to also provide a value to the visitors. But you need rankings as well.. Or you need to have a really viral FEATURE. If you can buy that script, then that what that script does will be hardly viral anymore. If you are good, create something new and viral. If you are using something old, then for god's sake make it RANK... I have also lost money.... And I have lost money buying DMOZ listed domain names hahaha.. I have a thing for dmoz listed domain names... despite knowing the fact that the listing goes away soon after I get the domain tramsferred..

You lost what you lost to learn some lessons. Everybody looses and this is the coin you have pay to become successful. Now look back again and be sure you got the lesson right and use that information to guide you ahead. And use the method of carefully designing your guiding questions: "Knowing what I know now, what wouldn't I get into" and "Knowing what I know now, what would I get into".
Even I have lost a lot, you can only recover by doing better work and working smartly and hard working !
