    Hi guys,

I want to use two domain names for the same site, without getting dropped in the SE for duplicate content.

I have two domains, one is short and good for people to type.

    The other is a long-keyword-thing-for-search-engines(.com)

The keywords would really help while the site gets started as they are exactly the words people will use to find the site in search engines.

The actual site will be on the shortdomain(.com) though.

Please advice the best way to do this without getting dub conent -- like, letting the SE's know its the same site.

    coolshortname(.com)/page-name
    long-keyword-name-for-se(.com)/page-name

    Thanks for the help.

    Regards,

you can't put the same content on two different sites without getting penalized by google. Just rewrite the content so that it's not duplicate for each site.

If you make two sites with same content, you'll get busted for duplicate content.

Just place your site on the better domain, and redirect 301 the other one to it.

I dont think i'd want the content on both sites.

I'm more after a "redirect" where it's not duplicate content, and dosnt get picked up as that.

    A few examples are:

www.planet-source-code. com and www.pscode. com <-- exact same site, same content, 1 name for SE, one name for users. Still a top result in google, so im guessing not busted for dub content.

www.Internet-Movie-Database.com and www.imdb.com <-- exact same site, same content, 1 name for SE, one name for users. Still a top result in google, so im guessing not busted for dub content.

Same sites different names -- one for SE one for users.

Thanks for any help in doing this!

    Cheers

You are going to have to redirect one of the sites to the other. Which basically makes having the second URL pointless if your only purpose is to game the search engines.

You can do this using park domain name features.
If your host provide you parked domain feature, than you can do this.

    Why is that???

On plant source code, both domain names seem to work the same as each other. for example:

    http://www .planet-source-code.com/vb/scripts/ShowCode.asp?txtCodeId=70123&lngWId=1

Works, just the same as this:

    http://www .pscode .com)vb/scripts/ShowCode.asp?txtCodeId=70123&lngWId=1

You are not redirected to the other site???

If you type the title of the code into google: "Sudoku 5.1" -- planet source code is no.1 spot in google, no.2 spot is another pscode domain name (they have a few by the looks of it).

So they are not getting dropped for dup content.

    I want somthing the same...

In search engines, i want my keyword domain domain,

when the site loads, it's going to be called the short domain, so next time a user wants to come, they can just type the short domain.

    Thanks again for the help!

I'd really like to know how to set this system up.

    Cheers.

To make two sites with same content, just place your site on the better hosting service, and redirect the other one to it.

I've tried to explain why. It's for search engines. Having a name with the main keywords i want my site to be about.

For example, if my site was about flash games -- If i owned the domain: www. now.com - it has nothing to do with the keywords, but its good for people to remember, and quick to type.

If i also owned www. free-flash-games-online.com -- it has the keywords people want, it would help the site look more relevent to search engines.

So, a user searches google for "play space invaders flash game", they would find the long domain -- they would click it, they would be taken to the site -- the site name is "now.com" -- the url is still the long one, but next time they want to come, they can just type "now.com"

I just think it would be easier to get a new site going with a more relevent domain name. A cool domain dosnt help with SEO at all.

I've given an example of a site with a few domain names, not being hurt by the methord, so it must be possible to do.

    Can you explain why???

If anyone knows how to do what i'm trying to do, or has tried it. please let me know! :)

    Cheers.

You can register all the domains you want, the only reason people point domains is because they get "type-in" traffic, not organic traffic. In theory, you need a website w/content behind the domain to even get indexed, how many Google search results do you click on for one domain and instantly redirect you to another?

It isn't a bad strategy, it's a waste of time and monitary resources.

Can anyone explain how planet source code do it please, without problems with duplicate content. I can see some people think its a bad idea, but i think its going to be worth a try.

    Search pscode on google,

you will get: www. pscode.com and www. planet-source-code.com

Both sites fully function - neither redirect to the other.

    Anyone help???
