I want to start my SEO business, how do I get started?

I know some SEO knowledge, but I am totally new to this business.

May someone please advise me how should I run this business and what is the price of doing such business? What things in solid should I provide to my customers?

Start with giving free SEO services to two three websites and in return ask them for a backlink at the footer.
Now mail webmaster and web admin about your services and show them your work.
It's a gradual process but depend on how you want to start.
You can also target tele marketing if you work in a team.
It all depend on your investment.

 

Well, I have some ideas of promotion, but don't know how this business should be run.

 

Believe me by some,its not enough to meet your client demand.
Maybe majority of your SEO knowledge is too common and already known by other.
So,i think you should acquire more SEO knowledge by attending course then only start offering SEO service.

 

The question you should be asking yourself is "Do I really want to start an SEO business?"

Edit: As far as what the cost of running such a business, I think only your time. There is nothing you need to buy to get started.

 

Do you have some reference cases? If you have shown great results before getting new ones will be almost easy. Without references it will be hard time getting new customers.

 

i agree, references of rankings you currently have would be a good idea...and for rankings, i mean for terms people actually search for and is competition for. not something like "purple dog shoes"....

 

I run my own SEO business and the key is to only take on keywords you know 100% you can rank well on for your client. Say only work on keywords with little compeitition just to start of with and see how it goes.

 

Well before starting SEO business you have to create your website and have to do SEO for your site first then you can show clients you know something about SEO...

 

Yep...if I were a prospective customer, I'd have to see your track record & references before dishing out any cash to you. SEO specialists have come to be known as snakeoil salesmen in the online webmastering community...be prepared to prove your stuff.

 

Why r u not trying to search in Google? Just go there and search with ' SEO tutorial ' and similar keywords. You will found lots of ebboks or everything which will be helpful to you to learn SEO.

 

I have hired a few SEO companies for small things. The best way to find an SEO company is by referral and by just looking up their clients terms they rank for. If they can't get their clients now ranking for medium competition keywords then I would not use them. Looking at what they have done instead of what they say they can do is how I choose. There are so many "SEO" companies out there now it may be hard to compete unless you want to work for pennies.

 

I cannot believe you are asking how to promote an SEO company ! Surely, you must be 1st place in google for you keywords before you can consult and offer advice to others !

1 - I haven't done that stuff so I can't give you a straight answer, but I can make a very good guess. Judging from the massive amount of people on the internet that have an 'SEO business' there probably is way more supply than there is demand. Which means, you're probably not gonna make anything.

2 - The thing is you probably won't be able to guarantee how well the site will rank with a particular keyword, therefore if you guarantee the outcome to your customer you will probably disappoint him/her.

 

In terms of pay i was paid £300 for 3 days work with a little follow up work for building backlinks. But i dont sell my services normally i like to keep my techniques to myself, plus if i ever did try to teach people they would just get confused.

For my client i helped their laptop company rank for over 30 kepwords for specific location 5 medium keywords and the obvious impossible one of laptop repair (omg it is impossible to rank for this word i tried everything) hey had over 5,000 relevant backlinks (not directory) and around 8,000 non relevant (such things as blog comments firectories ect as one of the comapnies aims was to get thier new site to pr 3 instantly).

I done it, it helped me with uni, yay, seo is tough when your doing it correctly, those 3 days were actually 18hr days of doing the work, plus i had to do it at the company with him asking me questions of why i do x and y lol that was annoying.

In response to "shouldnt you be number one if you know seo?" how about trying to rank for the letter a? Impossible just like the word SEO, search engine optimization, search engine optimisation (dont kill ure us or uk markets) everyone and his mum wants in so ranking hard, you have to use long tailed keywords which again are hard in the seo business cus guess what... they already figured they need long tailed keywords as well.


In terms of getting business i went around and advertised in my town physically, in terms of the net i would do free seo services on a few forums to drum up respect since forums are just the best place to prove your worth and then get business. Once you have done a lot of SEO you should then go for actual online marketing with ppc banner ads on reputable sites. But tbh most your money will be via forum payers like here.

i would not trust anyone who "guarantees" a ranking for a keyword....SEO companies do not control the SERPS and how they work, so I would be skeptical of anyone guaranteeing anything in regards to a particular keyword ranking, especially a competitive term. about the only thing you should guarantee is improved rankings, if that.

In my opinion, if you start the business you should know everything about the business. If you want to know what is SEO and what you do in that business you should visit some useful sites regarding SEO. In this business you have to give good material, good content, best services to your customer.

as denharsh said, start some free services first, like "Ask your question for free", so people can promote you.
Start working on branding first. establish ur website, add useful resources and articles about SEO and online marketing + SEO Forums, and build good relation with your visitors and users.
After all, you could start doing some consulting services for a reasonable amount. Do not offer services such as "submit for 1000000 SEs for 29.95$".

Also, focus in few good clients not too many tiny budgets ones.
