I have an idea for an online business that I think has the potential to be huge. However I don't know anything about running a website. What is the best way to start up a website selling my product??

You dont need any lessons on how to earn your first dollar online, that is terrible advice. I would go to the design/programmer section, maybe start to talk with designers/coders about what you have planned. See what they think about your idea. Then research it, see if there is any competition to your idea. After that just get the funds and start designing!

Start by reading this free ebook:

    http://www.dotcomology.com/

Decide on a single way to get traffic on your website and then learn as much as you can about that until you can master it.

Then you can learn a new technique.

Remember to focus on one thing at a time.... and take MASSIVE action.

Affiliate marketing is a desirable system, and we have experienced some success.

When we started, we took the money that we earned with affiliate marketing to fund our other projects.

Great way to start and earn some extra cash

If you're looking to build a website yourself, please check out my WordPress Video Tutorials. I'm adding more information every day on how to use WordPress to build a small business website for little or no money (including ecommerce). I also have a free ebook that takes you through the thinking process for determining your website requirements and a free report on the 7 things that I wish I knew before I built my website--many of the mistakes I made are probably things you're thinking about doing right now.

I hope that's helpful and good luck with your website.

You can do one of many things.
    1. Sell on eBay - large traffic and audience but you have to pay lisitng fees and get good ratings etc.

    2. Get someone to sell your stuff for you on eBay - persons should preferrably be a PowerSeller with good ratings etc.
(Bear in mind that eBay is an auction site though although a Power Seller may have fixed price selling)

    3. Sell on Amazon (more shophisticated than eBay - I think) - you can apply for a Webstore from Amazon

    4. Create your own website to sell - you can buy a domain name and hosting from a company like WebHosting Pad - they have really great free templates that come with your hosting account. So you can go for DIY

    5. Pay someone to set up the website for you.

    6. Get a FREE domain from Synthasite and build an eCommerce store and start selling. They provide you with the scripts to accept payments online as well with PayPal, Moneybookers, Google and other payment processors.

Is this a physical or a digital product? Will you have to do all the shipping e.t.c? What exactly do you have in mind?

I would recommend you analyze your skill set 1st. Are you good at writing? Are you good at marketing? Are you good at programming? Are you good at server/site administration? Are you good at researching? You should be able to answer yes to at least 1 of these questions. It is the question(s) you answered "yes" to where you need to focus your efforts.

As you said, if running a website (from a technical perspective) is not your area of expertise, you need to find services or freelancers that will do this for you. This website will list many of such resources. That way, you can concentrate on the areas of the business where you can really add value and get your killer product off the ground more effectively.

You might want to start with affiliate marketing...That is... selling other peoples products.

This way you don't break your head creating a product or service but instead you promote other peoples products or services.

You might want to check this web-site: fastcash4internetnewbies.com
