I want to setup my first store

Hello, I want to setup my own ecommerce site. I've always used affiliate programs in the past but I want to skip to the next phase. Is there a guide for this?

I have seen some companies that basically copy their ecommerce site, put your label on it, and call it yours. I guess the point is you keep the bookmarkers this way. I do not want this. I want to be able to change code of the site and make it better for SEO. Does this mean dropshippers are the way I want to go? I found one that looks good for adult toys but all the ones I see for mainstream products seem to be inferior quality goods and that does not appeal to me.

Thanks in advance for all of your wisdom.

Dropshipping seems like a good place to start, then once you start to get the hang of the business and get some contacts/traffic you can look at ordering in bulk and selling yourself.

For the ecommerce website, you need to custom make.
Hire some designer to design template for you.
Yes drop shipping is the choice if you don't want to hold the stock.

Dropshipping is going to be tough. Be sure you have yourself dug-into a nice niche and are not trying to compete with big players. If you're going to be successful in e Commerce using dropshipping then a niche is a must! GOOD LUCK.

Yes, Adult Toys tends to be a decent niche.

You can start with dropshipping. As you can guess the profit margins are not that great with dropshipping. Once you settle with the site, you can start having your own inventory from liquidators.

I would start with drop shipping and slowly start replacing the items with your own stock

A long time ago, I tried dropshipping. The reason I did not continue was that (a) you have the hassle of order support (where's my papa smurf underwear - it's already been 20 minutes since I ordered etc) - (b) the profit margins are pretty poor and (c) it was (even then) turning hyper competitive.

I turned my attention to digital business (software, informarion, services) simply because while the competition is still high the profit margins are large and there are many different monetisation options. I'd say think things through carefully before venturing down the dropship path - hope that's not too negative, just trying to help!

I've been thinking about drop shipping but this is the reason why I think I won't go for it, the margins aren't large enough.

Drop shipping is not easy. It is TOUGH! Small profit margins, unlimited competition, and customer service hassles are all major concerns with drop shipping. I agree if you can try for some liquidations or surplus buys!

A great site to start off with is Ebay. Open a store on there and get some feedback and good rep going. After a while think about a website, I suggest the cart software Godaddy has, it is user friendly and is very helpful.

I've been thinking about doing something like this myself.

Here's my plan: Do keyword research to find a good sub niche product that is selling but has weak search competition. Build a site around the keyword and get a good google ranking. Use a service like Worldwidebrands to locate wholesalers that offer your product in light bulk or drop ship if that's how you want to start.

The problem I have with liquidators and overstock suppliers is that they are unloading items that didn't sell in the first place.
