so i just bought this over sized webhosting package from a site, with almost 1 TB of space, and i will never be able to use that much. it wasnt that expensive so i was thinking if i could setup my own hosting company on my server, i could make back (or close to) what i pay for the server. does anyone know of a php script, of software i can put onto my site, witch will setup a webhosting service on my server? please help.
I hate to say it... but if you don't know how to set it up, how do you plan on running a webhosting company?
you need WHM installed on your server and then sell hosting, are you allowed to host unlimited domains ? are you on a dedicated server ?
You don't HAVE to get WHM to be a host, i've seen plenty of hosts without it... try hotscripts.com for a free host account management script... Also make sure your hosts allows you to host peoples sites without a reseller...or you will get suspended/terminated when they find out(and they will) The best way for a beginner to start hosting is to get a VPS....more flexible/reliable than a reseller/shared, without the price of a dedicated.
how about trying to forget the whole idea? they give you that space to sell the package to you, but you are going to find out real soon that if you come even close to using 50% of that you'll get your account closed. they all say unlimited this that and the other, but they limit other things that they dont mention and that means you'll never be able to use the full package you paid for. want to do hosting? start with a dedicated server. or reseller accounts, and a lot of reseller accounts are limited too
LOL, what you need to do is learn about servers are far as that goes. Then learn what cPanel does and maintance and when you got ripped off from a company. You also need to learn what features you get as far as control panels goes, Why do you even want to start a hosting company? There is already enough out there unless you wanna be another oversell offering 50gb space and 500gb bandwidth for $5/month but it is your chose.
