I was wanting to make a forum for my website.....but I dont know how.

A friend told me to use phpbb, abd when i downloaded it, i had no clue what any of it does or how to work it.

Is there any "already made" forums that i can host on my own site?

    or

Is there "how to" for dumbasses like me?

The forum must be uploded by ftp on your website server and then install it (you can find tutorials on internet ) , make a design similar to your site and thats it :)

If you had Fantasico cpanel -it would install phpbb or smf in some cases for you.

    Q...

forum script is very hard to do. All you have to do is uploading script to your server or directory inside of your site. Let's say that you want to have forum at this url "www.yourdomain.com/forum". Now you have to upload script in to this folder (yourdomain.com/forum). Then enter that url in to your browser and and fallow the instructions. If I'm not wrong you will have to open a new mysql database before installation, because you will need this info during installation. It's very easy actually when you try this for a first time.

phpbb is the free option.... sounds like you might just need to pay some one 40$ to install it.

What the heck does that mean?

If your hosting package has "Fantasico" in the control panel, a couple of clicks and you're good to go!

It prolly means you chose the wrong type of database during the setup process.

You prolly should of chosen the "mysql" option for the database... but it all depends on your host and their server. It might be good to let us know where your account is at and whether it is a windows or linux based host.

sorry... can't help you much with godaddy hosting. They do things differently than other hosts. But normally with these other hosts... the hostname is always, "localhost".

    Well now that's 2 strikes against you ;) :p

I tried searching, but I did not find any instructions for installing phpBB on a godaddy windows server... and I am only familiar with *nix servers.

But try using "MSSQL" instead of "MySQL" for the database type.

Godaddy sent me this message: "Thank you for contacting Online Support. Unfortunately, php is disabled on our windows hosting environment"

So much for that. Is there an alternative to phpbb that will work?
