Hi, I want to place a backorder for a domain name in godaddy. Will they charge the backorder fee instatntly or when the order gets excecuted for me. Also if I want to cancel or drop out of the backorder, is it possible and will they return the money? Thanks in advance..
I think you pay the fee and they try to get the domain name, if they fail you can attempt to backorder another domain (i think)
You had a success when you attempted or you took some other? Anyway, I am looking for a domain which is registered under moniker. So will it be good to try through godaddy or try through moniker itself?
hmm .. actually i wouldnt use godaddy if it's a premium domain .. godaddy is no competition in backordering comparing to pool, snapnames, and enom. However, if you think that nobody is going to grab that domain except you, you can use godaddy. i think it's around 19.95 per backordering compared to those listed above with 60 base prise + auction price. I still wonder though what will happen if 2 godaddy customers were backordering a particular domain and godaddy successfully grabs it. Never heard of domain auctioning by godaddy.
I just did this about a month ago. You pay the fee upfront. The fee is good for the purchase of one domain through the back order process. If you don't get your first choice or you change your mind you can change the back order to another domain. The fee is not refundable. Just be aware that the actual release of a domain occurs 75 days after the renewal date shown in a whois. Colbyt
I have wondered about this also. Would contacting the company that you want to backorder with and asking them these same questions be a smart move. Or would they give the sales pitch that hems and haws around an answer that they don't really want to give? Jere
I went ahead a did it so I would not forget. I have forgotten in the past. I don't know what happens if 2 or more people have it backorderd and neither of them are willing to bid or bid higher. Or maybe they just don't get the email that day. I guess I am saying all other things equal maybe the earlier date gets it? That is just speculation on my part. Colbyt
I tried backordering a domain name thru godaddy with no success (it was renewed by its owner) anyway, y'all are right. you can't get a refund and you can only use the money toward trying to backorder another domain name
Only 1 godaddy customer can backorder a particular domain, the first that place the backorder. I've got 2 (non premium) domains through godaddy backorders.
This is my first time using GD's backorder service. You pay the money up front and there are no refunds. But you can use the credit towards another domain. I'm kind of shooting myself in the foot because the domain I want doesn't expire until 2008. The domain is parked, there's nothing on it though I'm pretty sure at one point there probably was (it was first registered in 1999). I'm wondering if I should try to contact the owner and see if they will sell it to me outright. How does one approach people about that?
I have around 12 godaddy backorder credits, nearly all of which arent be used atm...I really need to investigate some godaddy expiring domains. See the thing with godaddy is: 1) Nearly everybody seems to maintain the automatic renewal when they first register the domain...Im sure 9 times out of 10 without even knowing it. 2) Godaddy has a very high renewal rate because they pursue there customers to the ends of the earth with successive emails..starting at least a month out from expiry. I may have actually managed to get 1 domain with them *fingers crossed*. Personally though i wouldnt recommend there backorder service....domains are nearly always renewed automatically it seems.
so as long as you didn't catch a drop, you can't still use the credit? i mean after like 10 failure attempt? The other day i saw a post in dnforum about a guy caught a 3 char name that worth 3 digit using godaddy.
You can use the credit towards another domains. Sometimes I had to used it around 30 times before finally catching a name.
Now there got this ridiculous situation where your name appears at tdnam in auction if it was a godaddy domain. So if you were hoping to pickup a good godaddy domain on the cheap...think again. Im very disappointed in this new policy by Godaddy...it basically means the 10 or so backorder credits i have are useless. Its just another money grab on there behalf..its not half obvious. Id like to get a refund for those credits, but reading some of the posts on NP and DNF, that doesnt appear likely. I hope someone pushes ahead with class action, a few have threatened. I was always under the impression that if you backordered a domain, and only 1 backorder was allowed, and the domain expired, and godaddy managed to grab it..then its yours. Now that goes all out the window. In conclusion, dont backorder a godaddy domain unless your prepared to bid up on it...
