I have E-Commerce website and for security purpose I want to add SSL in it. Can anyone clarify me the whole details and benefits of SSL? Is it right that through SSL every data importing and exporting to other websites are secured because SSL encode your data in non-readable language itself?

SL (Secure Sockets Layer) is a standard security technology for establishing an encrypted link between a server and a client—typically a web server (website) and a browser; or a mail server and a mail client (e.g., Outlook).
SSL allows sensitive information (credit card numbers, social security numbers, login credentials) to be transmitted securely. Normally, data sent between browsers and web servers is sent in plain text—leaving you vulnerable to eavesdropping. For example, if an attacker is able to intercept all data being sent between a browser and a web server they can see and use that information.

More specifically, SSL is a security protocol. Protocols describe how algorithms should be used; in this case, the SSL protocol determines variables of the encryption for both the link and the data being transmitted.

SSL secures billions of online transactions per day to protect customers, especially during online transactions or when transmitting confidential information. Internet users have come to associate their online security with the lock icon that comes with an SSL-secured website or green address bar that comes with an extended validation SSL-secured website. SSL-secured websites also begin with https rather than http.

All browsers have the capability to interact with secured web servers using the SSL protocol. However, the browser and the server need what is called an SSL Certificate to be able to establish a secure connection.

Are you sure you already have an ecommerce website? I can't imagine an ecommerce site without an SSL certificate! An SSL certificate has been a norm in ecommerce for over a decade!

Pretty much SEO-Monk has explained what an SSL Certificate is.

I agreed that SEO-Monk has explained it amazingly...

SSL Certificate is best and latest security protocol that secures online transactions, Credit Card details and many confidential data which you don't want that, hackers to find it.

If you have an eCommerce website than you must encrypt your website with Secure Socket Layer Certificate. It'll enhance your customer's trust towards your website and will also help you to generate better reputed online business.

Don't be surprise some merchants have let their SSL certificate expired. There are some merchants who don't utilize a SSL certificate which is why you should do due diligence and research the company and the owner's background before ever making a purchase on their website.

SSL Certificates are small data files that digitally bind a cryptographic key to an organization details. When installed on a web server, it activates the padlock and the https protocol (over port 443) and allows secure connections from a web server to a browser. Typically, SSL is used to secure credit card transactions, data transfer and logins, and more recently is becoming the norm when securing browsing of social media sites. SSL Certificates bind together.

SSL is a must for an ecommerce site. Imagine you providing an your credit card numbers, personal details, bank transfer without a https site. Will you buy it ?
SSL not only use in normal shopping card and payment site but do in log in site as well. This show that you concern in your customer details security.

Trust is needed to increase your conversion rate.
