Is it possible to add wordpress in a sub-directory of my site like mysite.com/wordpress , populate it with posts and then after that is done, move it to my main site so my wordpress install is the main directory?

Like maybe I just do a database dump or something, Im not sure?

Whats the best way to do this?

I have a site that has no back-end, but it has like 300 pages. I want to use wordpress on it. But I want to populate it first with all the 300 posts before I switch it over to wordpress because it will take me a while to add 300 posts.

    please advise.

Hi there - I'm actually doing this right now with an 8 year old site of mine. It's currently running on Subdreamer, but I'm switching over to Wordpress. Since I don't have tens of thousands to hire a team to do it, I'm doing it by hand. There is no other way. Every individual page has to be literally copied and pasted over. The style.css has to be re-written to apply the new formatting. Any WP plugins you want to use have to be manually added where they're needed, etc. It's an extremely time consuming job if you have a big site, like I do.

The best way to do it is to use one of your junk domains (or just create a subdomain) and build your Wordpress site on it. Once the site is done, work on doing all of your 301 redirects....then, point the domain name to that new account, so your existing site points to it. Make sure all instances of the "test domain" are re-written in the MySQL database.

actually, I dont care about the design, as I want a new design and site right now is all php like my urls are www.mysite.com/index.php?id=xxxxx.html , so i want them transformed to better seo urls like www.mysite.com/nameofpage.html anyway.

I just want re-do my entire site on a sub domain or sub directory, and then once it is finished, move it over to the main site somehow, so there is no down-time. Maybe I have to transfer the database or something, I dont know.

It's not very hard to do actually. You can use Cpanel to move the whole directory folder when you are ready to move to the root level. You'll need to update your config files (anything with a path including /yourblog).

The only thing to watch out for is this: Your image links will break.

So make your pages then add your images AFTER you move to the root level.

There are instructions on Wordpress.org on how to move sites. It's easier than you think. I've done it several times.
