Hi, I'm looking at getting this laptop : http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000Q5INNU/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top It looks very nice in pictures and on paper, with really good Specs, but the reviews say that there are some problems with it. However, as far as I have seen it is the only laptop with a blu-ray Writer drive, which really tempts me as you can store 50GB of data on one disk. Can anyone advise me on this or suggest a different one (Sony is my favourite make)? Thanks, -Hecky.
Hmmm... Usually I don't go for Sony laptops the only main reason being too pricey. You could check out Acer which is more economical and at the same time reliable.
I think it's even more for the badge than 10%. And there is quite a lot of negative feedback about WAIO so i'd go for others. HP or Acer is always a good choice.
I believe Dell's XPS line of notebooks have a Blu-Ray drive as well; I know that the XPS M1530 has the drive, but I'm not sure about the other XPS books.
Sony Laptops ARE good, but overprice. For example, I was in the sony store yesterday, just browsing as you do.. They had a nice laptop in there, i really liked it, and the specs were good.. Dual Core 2.0Ghz, 2048mb ram, 120gb harddrive. and you even get a sony vaio logo. All for £999.99 (about $1857.12) Where as, comparing it to my laptop at home, which i got a year ago+ now. My laptop is Dual Core 1.8Ghz (the .2 ghz really doesnt make much difference at all) 2048mb ram, 120 gb harddrive, and a true colour screen thing. I got this for £410, brand new. So less then half the price for a laptop virtually the same. I recommend you take a look at Dell, or some of the not so big names, for £999.99 for example, you'll get a laptop twice as good, which would be amazing. Hope this helped Just don't go for sony laptops!
I'd stay away from Acer laptops as if you have any problems they have to be shipped off to Acer to get fixed or your warranty will be void. I'd look at HP personally. As for the blu-ray burner, it's 2x, can you imagine how long it would take to burn a movie?
I would go with HP, my sister has one and I really like it. And it way cheaper than a sony. here's the site http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/s...=1&landing=rts_notebook&category=rts_notebook
I would go for Dell. I love Dell XPS laptops. I currently got Dell 630m, but I am planning to get Dell XPS (good one) soon. I'd Recommend Dell.
You can also look some toshiba models. They offer both cheap but reliable laptops or very powerful but more expensive laptops. Personally, I have toshiba satellite laptop. It is one of their cheapest models (I got it for 500$) but it runs pretty good. It is pretty decent and reliable for that price. Never had problem with it and I'm using it cca 8 hours each day for about half a year.
DONT compare SONY with Acer Acer is one of the worst laptop maker in world there laptops are made to hang SONY is costly but they have Quality !!
I have had Sonys in the past, and they've all been good, and the majority of the bad ratings there are because of the software that's on it at the start :S. As for the BluRay drive being slow to write, I think it could be used more for data storage than anything else, and I should think that 2x movie speed is quite fast writing. -Hecky.
try a 50% surcharge for the SONY name. I personally LOVE sony laptops, and all other sony products for that matter, my last two laptops have both been sony VAIO T1XP and T2XPs respectively, both hugely expensive but soo easy to travel with. Now that I am doing more and more intensive design work though Im actually just buying myself a new laptop as well, and to be honest I dont think you can beat that offer at pcworld right now for the dell inspiron 17", with 2GB and 120GB of hdd, its £499 and Im going to get one tomorrow to replace my desktop.... take a look at it at your local shop mate, but the sale ends tuesday so the man on that bleedin advert keeps on telling us all! MOG
Totally wrong Acer has been making high end laptops affordable for a long time and is the number 3 selling PC vendor behind HP and Dell.
I say no laptops beat dell. Obviously there are some killer laptops that do beat them, but for what you get in the price, dells the best.
Ive now decided: Im getting the £499 dell from pc world later this evening, 17", 2Gb and 120Gb hard disc..... ooooh cant wait!!!
