If you do too much SEO, Google may ban your site as spam. Work on few keywords at a time (not more than 4 or 5) It must be a slow and study process not just bomb the Search engines.
yes.. if you do too much Off-page then google will take it negative and un-natural! so you have to do it slowly and try to do it natural way...
its good that you want rankings on 1000 keywords but at the same time targeting these all keywords are very tough. in fact you cant able to concentrate on it. first target least competitive keywords then target mideatory competitive keywords afterwards you can target highly competitive keywords
Well, If you have new website then don't do much off page work and concentrate on long tail keywords when you get ranking on low competitive keywords then target on your main keywords| Other end if you have old domain then there is no need to worry you can work on as you want but don't try to keyword stuffing or spamming.
Create 1000 different webpages and target one keyword per page. Then write 5 articles per page and submit them to article directories. By the time you get done you won't want the top SERPs in Google anymore or you will be rich enough to hire someone to keep it all updated for you. Seriously, as suggested, start off slow and build your way up or you may get overwhelmed.
