I want more traffic for my personal blog

Hey, i was wondering if i could get any tips on gaining loyal readers to my personal blog, i write about my Internship as an IT Consultant, about computers, some hardware and software.

I don't update quite as often as i would like to but i believe the content i write is good enough to make people want to read it.

I am not trying to make any money of it, a few comments once in awhile would be nice.

the url is helgesverre dot com/blog, And yes i know, the design is horrible, i will be updating the whole site soon.

Create some good content on your blog. Then my suggestion is to be active in forums relating to your niche and put your blog url as your signature. Then as you help people, people will trust you and visit your site.

In addition to creating the content you do, try to find and add some interesting (youtube) movies - or create your own movies. People seem to like good movies and would like to stay longer on your site and perhaps make some comments.

If you want a following on your site, then be proactive in sharing it on social media sites like Facebook and Twitter. If you have new content, share it! You have to promote your site if you want people to be aware of it. Participate in other blogs within your niche through comments so that other bloggers in your niche get to know you.

Hope that helps. Have a good day!

If you want people to comment here are a few things you can do...
    1. Ask specifically for comments.
    2. Reply to people who comment, on the blog and also via their email / their own blog etc (you can go back to old comments for this)
And 3. looking at your site, you can be much more pro-active about getting a following. Your subscribe option is far down the page AND doesn't offer any incentive for people to join your list.

On one post you said at the end "I hope that was somewhat helpful…"

    Instead you could say...
Did This Help You? If so, I would greatly appreciate if you commented below and shared on Facebook

There are no rules on your own site, so if the information is good, ask for the comments, Tweets, Like etc.

    Did this help you?

Update your blog at least 3-4 times a week. Every time you write a new post, share it on Facebook, Twitter and other social networks. Search for blogs and forums in your niche, and leave useful comments that add value to the conversation. Include a link to your blog. You may also create a profile on LinkedIn and other professional networks, describe your skills and experience, and include your blog address. Focus on social media. Leave comments on other people's posts and encourage others to read your posts.

Social media should be your main focus if it is a personal blog. Include your friends and family to get an online buzz started. Of course you need to focus on posting to the blog as often as possible, but as far as marketing goes, social media is your best friend right now.

Facebook, Twitter, G+, Pinterest, Linkedin, Youtube, etc.

Share your post using appropriate, yet engaging images on Facebook. This way, people are more likely to "Like" your status messages and share them with their friends. Same with G+, however with Twitter you just need to get the most out of a short word count. Pinterest and Linkedin are good for sharing as well, especially Linkedin groups related to your blog. Youtube is great if you can make videos and get a following. These videos can be embedded onto your personal blog where you can talk about them in a quick post.

There's so many ways you can get more traffic, but a personal blog shouldn't be focusing on keywords and SEO. So this is why I encourage social media marketing methods, as they are very effective and people don't have a problem sharing a website that isn't just trying to sell a product or make money.

    Good luck!

Definitely some good ideas were suggested above.

Here's what I'd do in your situation:
    • Seek out IT and computer forums, put your link in your signature, and post around. Write high-quality, informative posts.
    • Create a YouTube channel based around your blog. Create some videos, and upload them to your channel.
    • Look around for similar blogs of your niche. Comment on their posts, and include your website link in the author box.
    • With any blog, a social media presence is imperative. Therefore, make sure that you have a Facebook page, Twitter account, YouTube channel, etc, created for your blog.

I think all the replies above are extremely useful in getting you off the ground and onto some serious reader engagement! To add on, from a blogging and content perspective, i'd suggest that developing a clear, confident personality online and an identifiable writing style would help. The best bloggers out there are supremely distinct in their voices, and things they have to say.

Becoming a noticeable blogger essentially is marketing ONE product in the best way possible - yourself. Brand yourself the way you want to be seen to your audience, be consistent in your views, encourage interactivity and be engaging on multiple social media platforms :)

For increase your site traffic you need to follow these steps.
Visit your niche related blog and leave thoughtful comments.
Active in forum posting and use your site link in your signature.
Write quality content and share it on some largest social networks like Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and Linkdin and some smaller or less well known social networks like Tumblr, Quora, Pinterest, Stumbleupon and Empire avenue.
Update your site less then 3 to 4 time in a week.
Put your site link in some search engine like Google, Alexa, AOL, Ask, Bing and live.
    :)

The videos have a great impact on people, especiall when you are trying to demonstrate something
to them. In my view a video, has more power to convince people to buy something than a picture or something else.

    That is my personal opinion.

    All the best.
