First, at a first glance, I don't know what this website all about. Second, I don't know where to start click first. Third Lot of empty space. Empty space is good, but use it creatively.

Ok here what you can do.

1) Decrease your website layout to 1000px
2) Put more graphic
3) Make it unique, create a logo and combine it with your color theme
4) Reduce your navigation link. Too many will confuse visitor and let them go away.

small issues: when changing the language the layout is broken at the bottom: the poll is overlapping the form topics. The login and search buttons have "font class="" caption when changing the laguage (or mayeb even without it, did not check), the main menu has broken layout when changing a lang
