I used to think I was good at SEO but actually I'm really quite shit at it

2 years after I created my first affiliate website and I dont get more than maybe 30 visitors a day. Google and Bing send me a trickle of traffic each day and Yahoo sends me bugger all traffic.

I see people on forums posting how they get hundreds or sometimes thousands of visitors per day.

    How is this done??

Are you targetting the right keywords?

And what kind of conversion rate do you get with those visitors?

One could get plenty of visitors, but if they don't convert, there is no point of getting that much traffic. Most people will take lower traffic sites with higher conversion rates over high traffic ones with lower conversions.

If you're using SEO only to promote an affiliate site then you're definitely doing yourself a disservice. You should be using everything at your disposal. The goal of SEO is getting traffic by ranking well. But their are lots of other ways to get traffic. Participating in communities where your targeted audience is likely lurking is a great way to get traffic. This might include blogs, forums, LinkedIn discussion groups, Twitter, Facebook and lots of other things.

If your SEO is sucking, perhaps you should consider having a professional take a peek at it. If you were to provide your URL maybe peeps here could give you a bit of free help.

Conversions are great. No matter what I do I can't seem to get over 100 visitors a day. I think I had one day in 2 years where I was over 100 visitors. Sometimes I get less than 20 nowadays. I should be able to do better than this

Are you building backlinks on a regular basis? If you're serious about SEO you should consistently be building 3 to 5 new backlinks to your site each day.

I only get about 70 visitors a day. Wow, was that a shock. I looked at my SERPs and it SEEMED like I would be getting a whole lot more!

Position in the ranks is not everything.

Make sure the keywords you are aiming for are searched. You can find this information by using Google Trends or Google Adwords (even if you don't pay). Then, invest some cash in paid directories. A few hundred dollars will reap your benefits. You can search this forum high and dry for "tricks", but I learned last year it takes money to make money.
You also have a high bounce rate, so you should reconsider you content and layout.

You should have started this topic 18 months ago.

Bounce ratio is high, meaning your lay-out is not good or the information (content) what the visitor were looking for wasnt there.

You should ask yourself questions like these: What keywords am I targeting? And with what keywords did the visitors end up on my website? Track the used SE queries, improve your content and track the visitors by using a tool like Google Analytics.

About backlinks: backlinks are nice but an amount of 600 or 6000 backlinks says nothing, its about being relevant and the quality!
