Not very long ago (2 yrs) I signed up with a traveling sales crew selling magazines door to door, state to state. All I ever wanted to do was travel, and selling magazines was my way out. Being from Orange County, all I wanted to do was get out of that god-awful place where dogs wear clothes and cops call backup to coax a cat out of a tree. Through that experience, I learned a lot about marketing and interacting with different people. It was really eye-opening. Mind you, the magazines we were selling were subscriptions, marked up xxx%. Most would sell for about $60 for 2-3 years. What I learned was you need to make offers to make money. If you don't ever make offers (take action), you won't ever make what you think you deserve. It is simple as that. It was tough for me, though, to sell in places like Philly and NYC where people are straight-up honest, if not rude. I came to the realization that marketers are really one of a kind. Of everybody who joined, 90% Wabbed Out within 1 day. I remember this kid from Connecticut, who was a self-proclaimed hustler, who couldn't sell a bottle of water to somebody in the desert. Talk is cheap. The thing I learned that was most valuable was: "It doesn't matter what you say, it is how you say it." I remember selling this guy in (South) New Jersey where I did everything right. He was the most skeptical person in the world, yet I sold him (and he never cancelled ). Since, I have transferred online and have been loving it! My office consists of my bed and printer. Not bad for a 21 year old. Staying out of the corporate rat race where "You Need a Degree to get this Crappy Job". If I can speak to any newbies, my advice would be to just find the answers to your questions. e.g Google, Forums, Friends My uncle taught me to be resourceful, and I will take that with me for the rest of my life. As far as marketing goes, get a sales page up, start testing, and make offers. You should be fine if you stick with it, don't repeatedly make the same mistakes twice, and don't mind getting your hands dirty every once in a while. Good luck with your IM adventures because $1000/day is not nearly out of touch in the IM world.
