Well I thought I was getting good results from Adwords, but when I look into the links from sites that my ads have apeared on they are all mostly Made For Adsense sites with ZERO other content in them.
Now firstly I thought that sort of site was banned? am i wrong? If so is it worth reporting them?

Secondly how can I avoid my ads apearing in them?

They are frowned upon by Google yes, but they still crop up daily. You can go into your settings and put their url in, however, this doesn't always clear them out. But if they have zero content on chances are they have zero visitors so no one is clicking these ads so you are not paying for them..

Chances are the owner is clicking on them him/her self then.. In which case it won't be around long. On every adsense block on their site you will find a link to click where you can report the site if you are concerned.. No harm in trying. If they are doing anything wrong Google will shut them down. If you want to pm me the site link, I'll give you my opinion on whether or not they are breaking any rules..
