I thought I had 180 uniques/day when in fact I had only 30!!!

I suspected that artificial traffic on my blog was high but not to that extent!!!! I am shocked.
How did I find out? By using sitemeter.com free stats that filters out non human traffic instead of my host's stats

Sources of fake traffic on my blog:

comment spam bots
referrer spam bots
blog pinging services
blog directories that fetch articles
search engine bots
etc

Don't you have google analytics? It filters bots, so bots won't be counted.

Yeah i personally use Google Analytics and has been very effective in filtering 'real' from 'fake' traffic!

 

If your website is based on a script where users can submit content then chances are automated bots are visiting it often to submit content. Thats how you will get spam and bots instead of real visitors. Block them and market your site to real people. That way you will gain real visitors.
