Hi DP friends, My name is Kal and I am webmaster and SEO in the last 9 years. I have a couple of small projects on the web, and few big. One of the most stable and consistent traffic website is my pharmacy store. I get a sale every 2-3 days and the amount of money is not bad, as I currently live in Thailand. Honestly, I have never do a lot SEO and internet marketing on this project, but I already have this website for 3 years. I am sure that I will be able to get more sales if I push the project a bit harder. If you on my place will you leave your full time job? Cheers Kal
If you think the time spent on the sites would be worth it to you financially both long term and short term (so you can keep paying bills) then yes. I would make sure you take a hard look at your finances before you quit to make sure you can sustain your current lifestyle. I quit my job in December and haven't looked back, its a great feeling.
Dont put all your eggs into one basket. Keep a job on the side to cover expenses while you work on your projects.
Unless you had made a pretty good figures online. Otherwise, why not keep your day job as part of monthly earned income? More security..
I would not quit you job to develop a website until you website is providing the same amount of money you job does. If you job provides health insurance I would consider how that will effect things if you quit you job
Websites and advertising is not a reliant and steady stream of income most of the time. If I were you I would stay at my job until I can really know that I have secured my income.
Thanks Buddies, possibly you are right. The income can not match my wages yet. Possibly I will give myself and my website 2-3 more months to see how things are going. Cheers Kal
I would read the book "Rich Dad Poor Dad" before deciding, and think about how many months can you live without your job if things are exactly as it is today. I believe that you should at least be able to live for 6 months (from your online income and money that you have saved) before deciding to quit. - Jens
Good luck with it kalseo! I am in a predicament where there is no work available where I am, but even then, I balance everything out by freelancing to a few people. Maybe if you want to work from home entirely, that is something that you can think of too. It may bridg the gap between what you are earning now from your job and what you are earning online.
Take a leave from office for 2 months and see how it works. Later you candecide whether to quit or to continue the job.
just work out what you earn each month and see if it's enought to live off. if it is, go ahead and quite your job. you could lower your hours to part-time giving you more time to grow your online business. if you do leave your job you should definitely have a plan in place to grow your online income.
I wouldn't leave the job, just work harder on this website at your freetime. Then you can see whats going on.
I would agree with this. Atleast make sure if you do leave your job that you have consistantly made a decent amount over a period of six months minimum.
@slymarketing: Don't quote Rich Dad Poor Dad, the writer is a fraud and a liar. If you can live on the money you're making from your sites currently, then it may be a good idea to quit your job. You're never going to see real development on your projects if you don't take a risk here. Bottom line. Do you want to leave your job... or you do you need to leave your job... If you have to leave it then it's time to quit your job and pull everything out the bag and make it work.
Yeah Right,,, @ OP Don't leave your current job if you are still earning good amount from both side. But if you have some great idea to do something different online,,as shawn did it..then you can leave your job. Good luck!
I think the safe advice is to always wait until you're making more than enough money to support yourself on the side before quitting. However, there's a fairly strong argument for just going ahead and quitting. If you value your time at a certain level, it's quite possible that you feel as though you are being paid less at work than you could otherwise if you were left to your own devices. In other words, it's possible that you can spent your time more productively (in the monetary sense) when you're not required to be at a structured job many hours each day.
Put more effort on your site SEO, when you feel that you are making enough money for a living...then leaving the full time job is an option.
Dont rely on a website to meet all your income unless you are so sure abt it - I wont recommend quitting the job
