I think this looks ok, what do you think?

I've been messing with a site for a few years, with the original being set up with Windows software, but once I moved to Mac that software wasn't available, so I decided on a script and a complete rewrite. The site is a directory of sports in the English Lake District. I'm more or less happy with the layout and am now working on a bit more content, replacing missing graphics etc. The link is in my sig below. I'd appreciate it if you could look and tell me what you think.

For what it's worth, I think everything looks decent apart from the top image which looks like a rushed Photoshop job.

You could also make the purpose of the site a bit clearer. "Lake District Sports Directory" is a bit vague.

Was more concerned about the placement of the Adsense code than the quality of my header image or site description, but thanks anyway ;-)

The ads are well placed but I'm not sure if adsense is allowed on directories. Also you should improve the header a bit as it is a bit plain.

I think your main problem is that your ads are always above or below your content. Since your working with some sort of lists you can't place them within without looking the lists ugly.

In my opinion the site looks good this is a major positive. You may have to experiment with the ad placement though.

looks good and the adsense is well integrated, could have more, like link units and adsense for search

Yes, I think it's really cool as a directory. But what stops you from welcoming the visitors and introducing them to the pages? That is my opinion anyway.

Looks good but I wish you had a bit of colour. If not as a background, in the sidebar somewhere

For the most part the ad placement looks great, but you really need to make the banner a little bit more attractive........

Have been trying to get more content into the site, to bring it further towards 'critical mass'. I refresh the sitemap.xml file every time I add new content, and Google seems to pick it up, but according to Webmaster Tools only about 30% of the pages are indexed so far, so lots of upside still possible. I'm seeing searches, but some pages are still too far down the Google pages to get clicks. Today googlebot has visited quite a lot, so hopefully new entries will start to appear in the index and existing ones will get boosted as I work on the SEO.

Adsense ads are still looking ok and I expect as traffic increases i'll see more Adsense clicks.
