When you see someone ahead of you drop a $20 bill do you pick it up and put it in your pocket or catch them up and hand it back to them?

That makes no sense though...If this is so wrong, why not disallow backordering domains?

It is just a question, nothing to do with 'backordering domains'. What do you do you do with the $20 bill?

I gave it back. How about standing in line at 7-11 and someone drops money. Seen it several times. I reach down and hand it back to them.

You asked it in a thread about giving back a domain so I didn't think it that strange that it was an analogy.

In the UK when a .co.uk domain expires you can't just go and register it. We have better rules here.

This is true, the $20 bill thing was differnt,

Brady you should be more pissed at the guy that dropped your domain,

Cause he would actually be the one that " dropped your $20"

If the guy the dropped the $20 spent it at the 7 -11 you actually couldnt be mad at the clerk

    Clerk = new owner

    Did that make sense?

I don't know, the whole domain squatting game can be very shady to say the least. But a lot of business people and their employees are also careless in general and expect someone else to do the thinking for them. I think that you need to learn some sort of lesson. I myself have returned domains to the previous owners 3 times. Twice they sent me some money paypal 200 and 400 without me asking. The other one was ungrateful and didn't even pay me for the reg fee. So: if you feel like giving it back, do it. But communicate with them first. If they're being dickheads ... teach them a lesson :D:cool:

Since the point was brought up, does the original owner really have a case against the new owner? Its not like he copied any site content. I would think vBulletin had more of a case then the original owner since it is their name (If anyone had a case, that is)

I'm actually curious as I don't see how he can use trademark to help him.

    Nothing will help him unless

    A) He is a huge Corp like Wal-mart and has millions to spend on lawyers

    B) The new owner is nice and gives it back

There really is no case, dropped is dropped

I can't think of many other examples in life that compare to expiring domains / domain snatchers. If you are paying off a house, and miss one payment, you don't all of a sudden find a new owner in your house the next day. The difference with domain names is no one really owns them; they're essentially being rented. T0PS3O says the UK has stricter rules, which just goes to show others feel it's best to protect domain "owners". I don't know if it's up to ICANN or what, but it should be considered to apply the same kind of rules to other extensions. In the meantime I can't help but feel sorry for brady @vbwebsites.net

Its probably the original owners bad luck that vb is also vBulletin (even though they were using it as Virginia Beach). I think that made it a lot more valuable.

Do you think a lesson is worth the business that you use to support your family? I can't believe people are sticking up for the guy who took the domain! I'm sure the owner of VBwebsites would reimburse bdmunee for the price of the domain when he bought it, but from what I'm seeing, bdmunee doesn't want to give it back that easily. Wrong, so wrong.

He didn't "take it"...It expired and he registered it....There is a signifigant difference there.

Personally I would love to see him donate it back to the original owner but he hasn't actually done anything wrong.
