One website losing traffic in Live doesn't mean all websites are, or that the search engine is 'dying'. Use your heads people.
I just checked my stats and this is the first month that I have 0 visitors from MSN...oh well, at least I am getting many more from google.
I agree with that. I don't know of many people that use MSN Search anymore, either. I myself and I know lots of people that use other MSN products, such as Windows Live (formerly MSN) Messenger and Windows Live (formerly MSN) Mail. I think they aren't doing as well as the search but better with other products.
Yeah I think even if AOL and ASK do send more, MSN is classic. It'll never be dead, everyone knows it. Its like Coca Cola, It'll always be around.
Well MSN is pretty terrible, when you log out of hotmal it takes you to the main page but still I never use it, I doubt anyone really does, it doesnt deliver good results for me, but my sites are ranked really high on it. I agree its the next AltaVista
I see that Live is improving their results and some of the big spammers networks sites are now behind the 500+ results. Their problem is that they hate crappy links that 99% of the SEOed sites have gained in the past. That's why they filter good content websites.
ly 2 i am still confused what u meant..do u mean MSN search site? or windows live messenger? or the whole Live thing? u know this Live name is so wierd...i mean like Windows Live and all that live messenger... oh u just read ure post again.and got it..u meant the search hit like referrral from google, MSN and ASK...well dunno i love google for searches...
You can't say MSN/Live is dead from looking at stats from just your own website. MSN/Live is the 3rd most searched search engine. I think it's more the fact that your site is not SEO'ed for MSN as good as it's SEO'ed for Yahoo and Google. Also AOL uses Google's results. So if your site is ranked well for Google then it is also likely to increase your sites traffic from AOL. With some of my sites I get more traffic from MSN than Google. I must admit, from all of my sites, it looks as if Yahoo is the ones that are dead, but then I can't say that because there is more of a chance that I have just not optimized my site for it compared to MSN and Google.
i find it hard to believe its the 3rd most searched, i guess no one actually clicks to any sites cos my traffic from msn is like 1%
In fact I am ranking very well in msn for my keyword, but never get any traffic from them, i dont understand :S
Maybe it just turns out the people that use MSN aren't interested in your website or don't use that keyword frequently?
Different sites visitors are all different and they all have different habbits. Maybe people that frequently use your keywords on Google may never hardly use them on MSN.
Evidence? Nice to see the usual elevated level of discourse and analysis on DP. As has been stated above, just because one site is not receiving a heck of a lot of traffic from MSN/Live does not mean it is 'dead'.
MSN really pales compared to Google and even Yahoo. I get more visitors from something on page 2 of Google than on 2nd position on MSN. In fact I dont think I have any hits from MSN for that keyword, whereas Google brings me hits every day on something like rank 18th.
I get more traffic to my internal site pages from MSN and Yahoo than I do from Google but my index pages are about the same on Google. I think you need all of the search engines. Putting all of your eggs in one basket is never a good idea. Remember when Google did the Florida update a while back? Google is a free service and they crushed many businesses when they did the Florida update. All Google has to do is tweak one aspect of an algo and you could be gone. I would never discount any of them.
