I think you will need to be patient with this one. If the technology is being adopted as you say then now is the time to be writing articles with links pointed at your site as a way of future-proofing and building up traffic. The early bird gets the worm and all ...
probably advertisers will be competing to advertise on your site since you'll be "the established" publisher when teh technology becomes a standard. here's to future luck!
In that case I'd add industry related articles with a more general appeal. For example an industry report about the big players and how they gain competitive advantage by using the system, stuff like that?
Based on the obvious integrity of original poster in this thread - Do most of you deliberately build targeted sites just to capitalize on advertiser budgets? Phill.
An intentionally inflammatory bait ... ok, I'll bite Actually, no, I don't. I do use Adwords as well as Adsense and have done so for a number of years, so I know how long it can take for some types of site to make any revenue from Adsense and also how quickly correctly targeted traffic can convert via Adwords.
Not intentionally inflammatory. I genuinally wanted to know. I have both i.e. pages that I've deliberately setup for adsense and existing pages that I've added adsense code to. Phill.
Hi there - Also, before you give up on AdSense make sure to optimize your site thoroughly. there are a couple of resources I think may be helpful for you. First, the normal optimization tips page: http://google.com/adsense/tips Also, we ran a blog post about optimizing forums that might be helpful: http://adsense.blogspot.com/2005/10/six-adsense-optimization-tips-for.html Remember especially to use custom channels to track your earnings. Channels can help you to determine exactly which ad units are performing well for you so that you can apply best practices throughout your site. Lastly, for tips using AdSense on a PHP site, try doing a Google search for 'PHP AdSense' before implementing your code. -ASA
FWIW, even if you get a $50 CPM, it won't add up to $50 without a thousand visitors... I have a site with GREAT AdSense CPMs but it gets so few visitors, it pays very, very little. (It's a very specialized site.) But I have a much larger site with much lower (still GREAT! compared with anything else!) CPMs that pays rather well - because it gets the traffic. So that's part of the puzzle.
Wow! Dude, you're honoured. A visit from Adsense Advisor aka a Google representative. You're clearly too lazy to spell out whole words and write entire sentences. Good luck finding your tree.
MattBeard, I have a couple of other strong suggestions for you which could help. First, strongly consider changing your software. Your CMS/forum software should not stand in the way of anything you want to do; it should offer a path (if not an EASY path, at least a NOT IMPOSSIBLE path) for you to customize it in virtually every way you want. This is one of the reasons I love WordPress, for instance; I can customize it to the extent that you can't even tell it is WordPress without checking the XHTML source, and I have total control over everything -- I can insert anything anywhere. Second, with whatever software you use, implement AdSense section targeting. This will help prevent irrelevant ads from showing, which will benefit your users. Third, get over the idea that ads are somehow going to annoy your users. You can MAKE ads annoy your users, but this is generally a bad idea. While most people might not click on them, well-targeted, relevant ads will be noticed and appreciated -- at the very least, if they aren't obnoxious, then they won't drive people away from your site, even if those people don't like ads. Finally, change your software.
Blending the ads to make it look like your own content is important! You want the visitors to "think" it's your link. So what if they leave your page, at least they made you a few cents to a few dollars! Always think of reasons to get visitors to your site. Offer free services, free tools, etc. Something the visitor is going to want.
I solved the problem on a phpBB2 board by placing the adsense code at the top of the viewtopic_body.tpl template You can play around with inserting the adsense code in other templates. You can see the results at my antispam forum: http://www.stat-communications.com/phpBB2/
Giving up after only a short period of time, eh? It is hard to make money on the net with that type of attitude. If adsense generated spectacular results as soon as you start using it, we'd all be rich, and what would be the point? Winners never quit and quitters never win.
