Some swine has just finished sending me abusive emails and has signed me up for a load of porn.

I have the cretins IP but that is it. I've not had to deal with this kind of crap before, can anybody offer any pointers on

    1. How can I stop the porn. I wouldn't mind normally - but it's my work email address

    2. Find him to knife him.

    P.S - it's gay porn too :(

do a whois search on his ip (like you would do a whois on a domain) www.whois.sc and there should be an email address you can contact about abuse.

Aye. I got his hosting and abuse@ addy - but I was wondering if there was anything more sophisticated that I don't know about which would let me find the person themselves, or at least give me a clue.

I've reported it but don't hold out much hope :(

You can't track people down to their physical address unless you are from some law enforcement and get the ISP to give up the personal info connected to the IP.

Only thing you can do is file a abuse complaint.

Some Sarah wrote a comment on a webpage in 2003 from that IP, but the chance of the same person having it now is proberly pretty slim.

    1. You can't. It's a Pandora's box. The best you can hope for is to just keep deleting and hope it goes away after a few weeks. If it doesn't, you'll have to get a new e-mail address and keep this new one private.

    2. Even if you were planning that, best not to post it on a forum. ;)

Reminds me when my buddy got divorced ... his wife was pissed off (bitter) so she bought him several subscriptions to gay magazines and had them delivered at his work.

Complain to the provider. That should work.

Anyways hope you'll at least start getting some real porn, not gay ;)

82.36.169.20 is an open proxy he is using to tunnel his connection. Most Mail Servers block open proxies easily, atleast the big ISPs like google, yahoo, and MSN. Most likely this guy is a Pro Spammer and you just happened to end up on his list from a crawl of your website. I don't see a guy paying for a $700 proxy mailing program just to get back at you. (Post the headers here in the topic and I will run it through my Samspade to make sure you got the right ip address)

There is no way for you to figure out who send the e-mail. You are going to have to ask the proxy owner to show you his logs (if he can show you them) at the time the e-mail was sent to you.

Report it to your administrator and he will most likely take it to the police or you could buy a Spam Blocker. I read some of the features on Spam Bully and it seems ok. Use the Bayesian filter and you might have to start using the challenge e-mail filter.

Filter your email through gmail. Their spam filter does a great job fighting this stuff.

For those of you who get your email on a cell this is important. The delete button is right in front of you in your email program. Phone's buzzing and chirping is a much bigger inconvenience.

You won't be getting back at the spammer but you won't have to deal with his crap either.
