So, I saw MDW a few months ago, and thought it might be a good idea to get on that bandwagon. Maybe I'm too late, and maybe I don't have enough "buddies" to get the buzz going around it. I thought I would develop it anyway, and see what I could get. So far, I have done a small Adwords campaign, and I have posted a "free page" contest on CL. I realize that this site needs content in order to look big enough to matter to someone wanting to pay the $ for it. What I'm wondering about this site is: a) Did I miss the boat on this concept, or can it still be worked a bit? b) What is the best place to go to "give out" free pages/links/keywords? I would like to offer this to DP forumites, but I am trying to tread carefully through the ToS as not to get banned, or yelled at. I even posted a while back asking just this question with no response. c) I am willing to knock the price down (once some freebies are in-place, I suspect). What seems to be the most sensible price point for this? d) Adwords seemed to cost quite a bit of cash, with no return (signups, comments, users, or even 'free page' contest entries). I have since given up on that. Should I try to optimize my Adwords campaign, or will that be useless for this concept? I have gotten great feedback on here about my other site, and I am hoping to get the same on this one. Please check it out, and I'm looking forward to everyone's thoughts! http://www.anythingwiki.com/
Honestly, the whole "Million-Dollar" thing is played out and smacks of QBC. What I like better is the swicki concept...a niched directory of content that could later be turned into discrete and powerful TLA spots. What I don't understand is why anyone would buy a subpage on one of these wiki's, with so many free pages available. And PR isn't everything, but, hell, my Wordpress.com blog has a higher one. Develop the heck out of it, build backlinks and dominate some SERPs...and you'll have a far more valuable site in the long run. That said, you can put different offers in freebies...but what you really need is some linkbait.
