Actually it was a 8.001 since it dropped to PR7 later on.

Ohh no. After I picked the site up I developed a crap load of backlinks. But it "was" PR7 with only 1 backlink.

UTTER RUBBISH! Where did you get that?
So -I give you the money to buy 18 PR6 links and get my site PR6 . If you can't --you return double the fund.

One should never talk about Google and PR with such SURITY. Nobody knows how Google awards PR. So these type of informations are very misleading for inexperienced people out there.

Aaron --as much as an experienced webmaster you are --I can't agree with ya mate.

Remember http://www.linksjuice.com -- Terry's strong directory? It got PR6 in January update within 5/6 weeks of launching it . More recent examples of uselessness of Link-age theory is -- http://www.indexsniff.com, http://www.directorymonster.org -- both PR6 within few weeks of their launching. There are many more PR5/6 directories I can think of which got high PR in less than 2 months of their launch.
So link-age is not a FACTOR at all.

That PR7 site -you are talking about might had more PR8 backlinks. You never know with these expired domains.:)

BOTTOMLINE -- Nobody knows HOW Google assigns PR and how many of what PR links are needed for a particular PR.

I think Aaron's example was with one link only.

I don't entirely believe the link age bit but I haven't really tested this...

the truth is that Nobody can really tell.. but one thing is sure The real Pr (pr.x) is not the only factor (when calculating how much pr a link will pass). especially after these last algo Changes.

Same here Terry. I was just thinking that --the site aaron has been talking about might had more high PR backlinks before he got hold of it:)

It usually is about 2-3 weeks before the pr changes are visible. The last few updates showed a pr rollback 2-3 weeks before the updates happened. So, going by that. Let's say the pr changes started on July 28, 2007. Count back 2-3 weeks and that will be the cut-off point.

In other words, it takes G 2-3 weeks to compile all the data using their "algo" before it starts hitting the dc's.

    IMO

    Col :)

PR update should be july end - aug mid... hence till july end atleast its good to keep buying links according to me.

Plus buying PR6-PR7+ is not bad according to me its definitely gonna give some juice. ;)

the spectrum of ppl's guesses are so wide!

guess it just proves that it is still uncertain how much time we have left for the next PR update. So i think steady and consistent marketing is still the way to go and not last minute advertising hoping to catch the update

Im not saying that links are worthless when they are new. Im just saying that with my experience the longer a link stays the more PR it seems to pass.

Also the site I was talking about didnt have any other backlinks and wasnt expired. It was about to expire and I aquired it.
