I submitted my url to google for submission(later learned not to) and I was told that I would end up in the sandbox. What is it and what can I do about it?

I do not think it makes a bit of difference in regard to sandbox. All it takes to get index is to be linked from page already in Google. Putting URL of site in signature will assure your site gets spidered.

As Shannon suggested, get many links to your website, maby use sitemap from google and get into the google index. Sandbox is an effect that slows down rankings in google, some get in and out quickly others stay there for many months. Just work hard promoting your website.
