No. Some volunteer will volunteer to process your listing suggestion in time but we can't predict who or when that might be. Elapsed times can range from a few days to a few years. Please be patient.
DMOZ is great but it's definitely something you have to try to submit then forget about it for a long while. If theres no results, try again. I tried about a year ago and no luck thus far!
Submitting to Dmoz has become a complete waste of time, if you look at the last time they logged in to edit, you will see some have not been touched or months in some cases years. in 1999 up till 2002 Dmoz was a great directory, then it just went to pot, it broke down, everyone became lazy. I was editor for 6 months for MusicMoz, from 2001 to 2002, when they handed me over the categories, the cms had over 1800 submissions that never got to be reviewed, it took me 3 weeks to get them all sorted. A few months back i filed for editor at Dmoz in a branch of categorys that had ZERO editors.... rejected!
I submitted about six months ago, and I also submitted last week. Do you think that was the wrong thing to do? I should have waited longer? I wish there was some sort of acknowledgment/rejection system so you didn't have to keep guessing.
Hello, I am a DMOZ editor so will try and give you an accurate explanation. When editors reject a website, all they do is list the reason for it and delete it. That is it. No automatic email is sent notifying you of your rejection. That is the same case with submissions we accepts. If you feel your website was wrongly rejected, there is a way to contact the editors of the category. Just scroll to the bottom of the category you submitted the site too, click on the editors name and there will be an option for you to contact the editor and ask your question. If you constantly email the editor and bug him about your listing, he will most likely block you and never accept your website as a result. Good luck.
Just to point out that such behaviour would be considered to be editorial abuse . Also, though they are free to act on them, we recommend that editors not reply to emails from website owners. The ensuing conversations sometimes escalate into abusive confrontations or even threats of physical violence.
Hey, tehcrazy -- some people have now been waiting nearly two weeks to know if you accept or reject their responses. Come on, get with the program. If you accept their responses, say so; stop making people wait. If you reject their comments, tell them why too -- then they can consider rewriting their responses to be more acceptable to you. But don't just criticize a volunteer org for timescales slower than you'd prefer unless you can do better.
It's probably worth the 5 minutes to submit, the benefit is not worth worrying about if you're not listed.
I agree, the listing to do is worth it, but forget it afterward. If it ever makes it in thats fine. I also got rejected when I applied for an editor. I applied as I saw some editors were not being ethical and such and that the times have grown higher and higher for acceptance of people with really quality sites. I even have a Masters and working on Doctorate in the field I was applying for Good luck to you tehcrazy and check back every month or so and keep us updated!
You may have to wait as long as i did and maybe more, lol I submitted my site about 2.5 years ago ! and still no luck !, everyone else seemed to list it within the 1st week, Google, Yahoo, MSN, Lycos,..etc :S The volunteers might consist of computer illiterates, being taught in the process, no wonder it takes years lol
