I still think Google is crazy Mark Cuban Oct 9th 2006 3:25PM Kudos to Youtube for getting them to say yes. My advice to you is to always protect your downside. Ignore all the scammers who want your money, and dont listen to all the tax scammers who want to save you money on taxes. Writing that check is painful, but its the right thing to do. That aside.. It will be interesting to see what happens next and what happens in the copyright world. I still think Google Lawyers will be a busy, busy bunch. I dont think you can sue Google into oblivion, but as others have mentioned, if Google gets nailed one single time for copyright violation, there are going to be more shareholder lawsuits than doans has pills to go with the pile on copyright suits that follow. Think maybe how Google discloses what they perceive the copyright risk to be in the SEC filings might be an interesting read ? full article from his blog.. well worth a read... http://www.blogmaverick.com/2006/10/09/i-still-think-google-is-crazy/
LOL! I think the whole thing is crazy. Geeze... we got google branching out, making acquisitions, when they can't even fix what they have that's broke.
lol he said "only an idiot would buy youtube" before. now it has changed to "crazy" from "idiot". seems like he doesn't have the balls to say "google is idiot"
I'm a she, not a he. Google has been acting crazy for months. Alot of people on most vB webmaster sites agree that it needs fixing, rather badly.
funny the only people who seem to complain are the ones trying to rank #1 in their respective fields.
a good objective article from the BBC : Google's copyright nightmare By Tim Weber Last Updated: Tuesday, 10 October 2006, 21:01 GMT 22:01 UK Business editor, BBC News website Google's takeover of video-sharing website YouTube may look like a nifty business move. For the company's legal team, however, it may soon turn into a long and nasty nightmare. Here's the rub: Besides all the gorgeous and goofy home videos, YouTube (like other video websites) hosts plenty of pirated content. These copyrighted music and film clips have been uploaded by YouTube members who pilfered the content from television, CDs, DVDs and other websites. The aggrieved parties are not just the big guys, film studios like Fox or broadcasters like NBC and the BBC. Many of the rights are owned by thousands of small independent production companies, and by individuals who want to retain control over their own products and the revenues they might generate. full writeup here : http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/6038116.stm
First of all sorry if my english is bad....but I come from a country which I realize that many people from the USA think is a brand for jewels. This is just another challange that the folks at google want to undertake. Personally I think that they don't care that much for the money, In fact, they could have developed their own unique youtube clone which would have been much better (having in mind how innovative the google engineers are). Youtube is a cash cow right? For those that have not studied economics - a cash cow is a compnay with large market share, and low growth which has established itself well and is believed to be less likely to experience any significant changes in the future. Some cash cows are: Coca Cola, McDonalds, BVLGARI Well one thing I know for sure, and its written in every book, people don't tend to sell cash cows. People tend to milk the cow and collect the money. Selling a cash cow might happen IMO only if the owners: a) feel threatened in some way b) have placed a way overpriced tag c) are frikin mad or smthn... In each case the company who is buying it must consider for itself that: a)It believes that it will overcome those threats.... B)has loads of cash which are ineffecient c) are friking mad So my conclusion for this stupid topic is: Google folks are trying to spend some cash, by purchasing a cash cow company. They are doing it because they simply want to save the time which would have been spent on developing such a site on their own. Time for them is more important than money obviously. Then they will shape the youtube thingie into a company which is not threatened by copyright pursuers. And this in general shows their strategy for the future. They have massive amounts of financial resources which need to be put into some kind of effective assets. If they are purchasing youtube, they will be purchasing some more. And this is also called diversification. Going diverse imeans minimizing risks. Cheers.
you forgot the formal definition of a "Cash cow" .. that is its primarily a business that generates a continuing flow of cash
