been using the net perfectly fine for 10 years without it.. do i really have to learn what the heck it is?
No. If you are happy and you know it clap your hands....LOL RSS is used for newsreading and newsfeeding. I use RSS on some of my blogs to populate content in posts. Others use it to have a news feed like "what's happening now" sort of thing either on their site or for personal use. Hope this helps. Col
There isn't much to learn anyway, RSS isn't anything complicated. I don't know how to explain it but if you do a Google search I'm sure you'll get a good explanation on what it is.
RSS = really simple syndication (in other words it's a really simple system that can help your site look like it has fresh daily content for the search engine spiders to come back for more fresh food)
Yea, I've never really looked up what RSS is but I'm pretty sure I have a good knowledge of it, just from reading various things on the net that mention it.
okay so im reading all the 'helpful' posts about what RSS is and even went to the wikipedia entry and had a good read.. i still feel lost.. okay this is what i think it is.. basicly youre browser gets sent a little message everytime the particular page you selected gets updated. but this doesnt sound like a good idea at all.. 1.) I don't want to waste bandwidth checking for updates 2.) Wont all those messages become annoying 3.) i prefer to go to the site and look around, i dont want to rely on a robot to do it for me im just not that lazy.. or have i got the wrong end of the stick?
In a way you do have the wrong end of the stick. RSS lets you see updated content more easily. Lets say you have an interest in 100 blogs. Its going to be a tough job going to each blog to find what content they have updated. With an RSS reader it grabs the fresh content so you can see the updates almost as soon as they happen. If you use www.google.com/reader its basically the same as reading emails. RSS doesnt take up any extra bandwidth than it would going to each blog.
