    Advertising (learn more)

Advertise virtually anything here, with CPM banner ads, CPM email ads and CPC contextual links. You can target relevant areas of the site and show ads based on geographical location of the user if you wish.

Starts at just $1 per CPM or $0.10 per CPC.

I spent $500 on Adwords and made $550 on Adsense

10% seems low but on a larger advertising budget of $1,000,000 per year you may yield $1,100,000 = $100,000 profit.

Has any one else used Adwords to try and profit on Adsense?

With $1,000,000, I think most people would do something better than Adsense. :D

Truth be told, that's a shockingly bad ROI. What url did you advertise and display adverts on?

I tried it with a smaller amount and I seemed to spend more than I earned.
With that much its better to use affiliates :)

Imagine spending a million and making $0, then imagine spending a million and making $1.5 million. :D

Pretty risky if you ask me.

But if I had $1billion, I'd risk it, just for fun.

You have very low profit on the invested money and risky business, if you do not have content on the website.
But do not forget that if you have real content on your site then it's already free advertisement - which is very good! On which side you are? ;)

In traditional business 10% ROI is perfectly acceptable.. us internet marketers are so spoiled :)

In the UK you wouldn't bother for 10% ROI. Less tax and you're in the red;)

I would say it is always good to start from a low amount and then see how it goes

If you're starting with a low amount, it's because you're judging that even though it may be a 'low' amount, it is impartial to your business assets. Despite this, why risk what may be 'low' in value when really if you're starting a business off you should be doing foolproof 'free' advertising, not paid advertising.

Its all about ad placement. keep in mind that adwords is the most expensive ppc. I used smaller ppc programs at $0.05 cpc going to sites with premium adsense placement to get $0.50 per VISIT! Those are good margins.

That's the going rate I'm looking for - something with a much cheaper alternative to Adsense. Mind sharing? Cheers

I have used over 20 different ppc programs. There are actually some quality ones that have given me a positive return. I have had good experience with Miva, Clicksor Goclick, YSM in that order.
Clicksor seems out of place but I used it to bring thousands of visits per day to my sites at 0.16 and still doubled my money. They accept paypal so I leveraged money through paypal that wasnt even in my account and the adsense revenue was over 200% of the expense. I wrote a whole ebook on this stuff.

You can burn through a budget very fast. Test $5 campaigns for the sites until you get a solid return then let it rip.

The most important factors are the niche category and ad placement.
