Could not have said it better Bernard, that is why I told him to form a corporation before doing anything at all with this domain
I noticed that Microsoft have registered ADCENTREMSN.COM and MSNADCENTER.COM so they have covered the obvious stuff. I am curious, what happens if ICANN decides that he can't have the domain? Is is just that he transfers ownership and microsoft pays him the $10 for the domain? Or is it more complicated? Ross
To be honest, the name is not worth that much unless a site is developed around the name. I hate names with a (-) in them anyway.
I realize that...I'm happy to give them the name if they want it, it was obvious to me that they have the right to it. I just figured that if they didn't want it, I might as well grab it. Jon
Not trying to revive a dead thread, but are you sure that is true? Depending on circumstances, can't they go after the stockholders etc? Especially if the intent is to shirk responsibility? I'm no attorney, but I don't think incorporation is the fix-all for responsibility issues. If it were, MS would us that to get out of all their lawsuits.
If it is a Nevada Corporation shareholders can remain secret, even if the shareholders are known the only thing they can take are the assets of the corporation. If there are no assets other than a domain name what are you going to get beat out of by putting the site up to test the legal waters
Okay I've just become worried about a recent domain purchase of my own. Is there any harm if I just have the domain and don't do anything with it?
Open a damn new thread, why do you need to bump up one that is 5 months old? Better yet, read this post http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showpost.php?p=128173&postcount=2
Why open a new thread when this is on point. I figured it's better to keep all related info in the same place. - But I do agree not a legal advice forum.
sorry to post on this old thread, but thought i would say this. if you worried about getting sued etc why not just contact microsoft and ask them, you would probally sort it out in a much friendlier agreement aswell.
