I see this sometimes in the search results. What does it mean?

I don't see it often, but sometimes I perform a search in Google and in the results, next to the domain name I would see "6 hours ago". Sometimes even "17 minutes ago".

Does it mean the last time the site was cached?

Is there a benefit to having it say that?

What can I do to take advantage of it to improve my rankings even more?

Here is an example of what I am talking about. I hope you can see what I mean even though I blocked out everything around it.

    Thanks!

OK. But this site is not a news site and homepage content is hardly changed at all.

Yeah, a lot of times this tag is for new sites, when Google just found and index the site, but also I have seen this tag on very popular sites, for example search for
    snow storm usa
and you will see usatoday.com as #1 with the tag "1 hour ago" so this means that Google visit and crawle the site just 1 hour ago, so this page has fresh news about the storm
